Hi everyone.
First match in our league and what I got is :
2 dead
1 centaur wich loose one move
1 Chaos dwarf dealing with loss of 1 armour.

Any thought? :-?

(I win 3-0....)

Thought 1: If you lose players at this pace, you better become really comfortable with inducements!

Thought 2: Early Chaos Dwarf development is a tight rope between skilling up and protecting your best players while saving away money to get 6 dwarves, a mino, 2 bulls, and 4 re-rolls. As such, I recommend:

Bull Centaur- He's a fine piece at -1MA, but not ideal. Keep him, but replace him when you get the chance. Don't force feed him the ball for TD's!

Dwarf- He's still a great value, even with -1 AV. If you have 5 or more Chaos dwarves, you can cut him. If he is #4, then you have to keep him.

Personally, I'd try to get 2 Bull Centaurs, 5 Chaos Dwarves, 3 re-rolls, and 12 total members on my squad.

Then I would prioritize getting a 2nd Bull Centaur and replacing gimpy, followed by a 6th Chaos Dwarf, followed by replacing that -1AV dwarf.

If either player gets an interesting skill up (pretty much a STR increase for your CD, or any stat for your Bull) keep them as they are.

Keep the Dwarf, fire the Bull, and live with a lot of inducements. That's what I'd do.

First thought: you need an Apothecary.

Second thought: you know how to play BB, these CAS are just bad luck.

Third thought: the same happened to me in 3rd Ed. with a CD team (my first ever team!). I had 3 CDs die in the first 5 games. TV sank to the 80s and took a long time to recover. But the side is resilient, and will recover.

Advice: I favour aggressive retirement of players in 5th and 6th Eds. I would just retire the BC and the CD and have done with it. You know how to play, have fun with inducements. Zharg is good as a last reserve (don't play him until you are forced to, or it is the last drive). Rashnak is devastating against AV7 teams. The Wizard, as ever, is great. So are Mercs with one skill. And 5 CDs is enough for a reasonable defense. If you keep the injured players, I guarantee they will keep getting SPPs (especially MVPs)...

Which team were you playing against, by the way? Was it Undead or Khemri, by any chance?

Let us know how you get on.

Reset the team?

If not I'd be tempted to fire both the bull and the dwarf, live with stupid numbers of Hobgob journeymen (and lose games as a consequence) until you can replace the Dwarf and then the Bull.

The Apoth is a must. I start with one on my Chaos Dwarf sides, but it should have been mentioned!

So many people opting to retire one or both players! Here's my experience:

My first game with my Chaos Dwarves (the Drunken Samurai) I'm embarking on a TD after knocking over one of my opponent's mummies. He stands up, dodges away, makes a GFI and blitzes my bull. knockdown. armor break. Casualty. Dead. Saved with the Apoth... Oh wait, I didn't have an apoth yet

So, I'm down a Bull from then on. About game 5 I finally get my second bull after buying an apoth.

In that time, I had a lot of work with mercenary bulls, or just one bull when inducements dictated it. The problem is, the piece is so important to your strategies that you really need them both, and they both need to be reliable. So I would much rather have had a -1MA bull than a mercenary bull, unless I could afford to give the merc block. And even then, the occassional dodge requirement left me wanting re-rolls.
