Chaos Dwarves - How to develop

Hi our league just finished its 3rd season and i just missed the playoffs. I during this season I really felt that my team was lacking against passing teams. I do well against other bashy teams but there is only one other bashy team so it is against passing teams i really need to be better.

Here is the team:

Bull Centaur Block, Break Tackle, Mighty blow, +AG, Guard 82 SPP
Bull Centaur Block, Break Tackle 23 Spps

Chaos Dwarf Guard, Mighty blow, Claws 35 spp
Chaos Dwarf Guard, Mighty Blow 29 spp
Chaos Dwarf Guard 9 spp
Chaos Dwarf 5 spp
Chaos Dwarf 4 spp
Chaos Dwarf 2 spp

Hobgoblin +ST, Block Niggling 22 spp
Hobgoblin Block, Sure Hands, Kick-off Return 32 spp
Hobgoblin +MA, Wrestle 20 spp
Hobgoblin Wrestle, Kick -AG 16 spp
Hobgoblin

4 rerolls

one of my dwarf blockers died a few macthes ago (guard mighty blow, Piling on) so bought a new one not long ago. Also i have tried with minotaur but felt he was a big TV bloat and didn“t add much to the team.

My first aim is to get a few more guards in the team, the 2nd bull ceantaur and maybe one more on a dwarf. Then i was thinking about to put Dauntless on one of the unskilled dwarves to handle ST4+ alittle easier. And ofc another claw if i roll a double. But I would love some input from other coaches and your ideas on how to handle passing teams (and other teams) with this bunch of beardmen.

With Chaos Dwarfs you shouldn't have much trouble with the agility teams

you have loads of block and tackle and with stronger players and lots of guard will not have trouble hitting them

Funny you didn't like the Minotaur as I think they really make the team. 3 dice blitzes or blocks with frenzy will usually knock most players over and you have mighty blow

then you can run in and foul with hobbos as well

you really should be looking for doing long grinding drives scoring in the last turn of each half and most agility teams will have issues with defending it

is there anything more specifici you are having trouble with against them?

I have a high TV Chaos Dwarf team : Hashutischoo. I'll tell you what I think works and what doesn't.

I've not liked Dauntless on a CD. He is never in the right place, is easy to tie down and to be honest if I want to hit something high ST, the bulls + Guard usually do the trick. As you mention, fast teams are more of a problem.

You definitely need more Guard. I have one CD without and he always annoys me by not having it.

I have found Frenzy brilliant on a developed Bull. He has a good range and with ST needs no assists. Great for crowd surfs, positional blocks and just extra hits.

As for fast teams ... just play a 2-1 grind. Make them score quickly by pressuring the ball and making it obvious you are going to kill things. Then grind and stall out for the score on your drives.

With the minotaur i had a really high TV which usually made so my opponent had alot of inducements. The passing teams that i lost to then had alot of apos and basically used them on all to negate the dmg i did to them. Thats why i few games ago decided to sack the mino and i have not really missed him only the guard skill he had. I have also had alot of fun with sometimes beeing the one that gets inducements.

thanks for some good tips i probably skip the daunltess dwarf and just go for full guards on the dwarves to the dismay of my opponents :)
Oh and gonna be trying out the 2-1 grind next passing team i face

kombat - like you, I think the Mino is a waste of TV in 5th and 6th Editions. He is worth a whole Wizard to your opponent, and that's when he is just a rookie!

All the best, and let us know how you get on.

get a mino, used right they are awesomtastic!
you just need to learn to feel your mino, understand how it works, and then let it loose on your opponent, but you gotta love him to get him to perform.

Minos are awesome! Not for winning, you may actually be better off without one... but for fun, you can't beat a Chaos Dwarf Mino.

My 2 cents:

If you have trouble vs passing teams, take more Mighty Blow. It hurts them more than Guard.

And yes... grind towards 2-1.

Good luck 8)

If you can get one to tie up say, 2 zombies, then you've basicly gotten a 1man advantage on the field. I don't say a mino has to DO much, more likely he's better NOT DOING much at all :p.

Least that's how I play my norse ice troll, having lost just 2 games in the last 16. This may change now though, since 3 new AV9 teams just signed up for the next season!
