Developed Skaven Team - When to fire Nigglers?

Post by Wylder »

Hi Guys, I have a well developed skaven team. They took a beating last night against lizard (win 3-1, so worth it!) but I now have significant injuries to decide what to do with.

Team is as follows:

Blitzer - Guard, Tackle, Mighty Blow, Niggling Injury, MNG
Blitzer - Guard, Tackle, Mighty Blow
Thrower - Accurate, Kickoff return, Kick
Runner - +MV, Block, Sidestep, Fend, Shadowing, Niggling Injury
Runner - +MV, Block, Sidestep, Fend, Shadowing
Runner - +AGI, Block, Sidestep, Fend, Big Hand
Runner - Wrestle, Tackle, Dauntless, Jump Up, Sidestep
Rat Ogre - Break Tackle, Juggernaught -AGI, MNG
Linerat x4 - No skills

3 RRs, 90k Banked.

As the injuries mount up, I'm becoming a little concerned about the viability of my team in the longer term. Culling the Nigglers seems wise at some point before it all comes crashing down on me at once. Re-skilling one replacement at a time is a lot easier than 2-3 together.

The -agi rat ogre doesn't really bother me. With BT, it's hardly a problem.

So, thoughts on firing? Yes, no?

First of all, i'd try to carry 14 players, and you are at 12. So I wouldn't let a niggler force a player into retirement until you had 14 players.

I am not sure you need to fire the the niggling gutter runner at all. He should not be hit very often, and has blodge+fend- he's relatively protected. If you can avoid fielding him on defense, or field him as a deep safety, I wouldn't worry about him.

The blitzer is more problematic, he is probably being hit more often, as he will often be in the thick of things. I'd replace him rather quickly, and try to get him up to 6 SPP's for Guard again. But still, not before 14 players on the squad.

Hah. 14 players - I wish.

I suck at keeping linos alive.

I'd keep them both. You're not THAT deep in the injury zone yet. Neither of those injuries really affects how the piece is used.

Don't retire your positionals until you can still have 70-80kgp left over after replacing one. Murphy's Law ensures that right after you spend your cash, several costly players will die

BTW, for me, the decision would largely depend on how long your league is and where you are in the standings. If there are still lots of games left and you're doing well, you can risk replacing now. If competition is tight and you need the skills to get wins, then stay conservative.

I don't think you should ever fire a skilled player for a niggling injury. Two niggles, or a niggle and a -AV perhaps, but not just a niggle: niggling injuries tend not to be an issue until they cost you the player, so cutting him is like paying the worst-case scenario price. Niggling rookies can be fired when you have the cash to replace them and have everything else you want. Key niggling rookie positionals can be fired when you can replace them.

Heh. Problems all got solved for me in last nights game.

Niggled runner died. The other 10mv runner took a -AV hit. I also lost another lineman, killed outright on the field.

So I fired the niggled blitzer, and the 6av runner and I'm going to start rebuilding. I purchased a rookie blitzer immediately, and assuming he can get two TDs in the next game or two, I will buy a rookie runner.
