starting slann +6 SPPs

Post by tzarkual »

Hi all,

Shortly I'll begin a league in my club and I'm taking Slann. We all have 6 extra SPPs for one player, so we begin with one skill. I love jumping so this is my idea as the team should be:

7 Linos
3 Catchers
1 Kroxy Break Tackle

4 RR

The plan is purchasing an apo at first, then a Blitzer and then the 4th catcher. The skill plan is based on one post I read some weeks ago here in this forum, so I won't write it again.

I'd like to know what do you think about that, any advice would be really appreciated.

Skilling up your Krox early is probably a good idea.

However, I wouldn't go for Break Tackle. Obviously hope for doubles and take Block, but otherwise Guard, Juggernaut or Stand Firm will be of much more value.

The Krox can fulfil too roles in the team:

a) Roadblock. Get in the way and tie up players with his PT. In this case Stand Firm or Guard is best.

b) Mobile threat/blitzer. In which case Juggernaut is best. BT is a huge risk on a turnover-prone team IMO.

Since you can have a player with a skill right at the start, how about a blitzer with Block. Blitzers cost a lot but once they have a few skills they (besides costing even more) really do start to be useful.

If you want to go with that starting roster, then I'd suggest that you give Wrestle to a lino. It's just such an integral part of the slann defence. And since he's already at 6 SPP's, he'll be closer to getting Strip Ball next. Getting SPP's on the slann linos is a real pain, but I think slann teams really benefit from skills on the linos, especially if you're not using blitzers. The kroxigor will skill up in time anyway and you don't need too many skills on him. Break tackle on the kroxi on a slann team is a bit of a waste as Í really don't see the team needing a mobile kroxigor. It's much more useful shoring up one part of the line. If you want a dedicated killer on the team a blitzer will suit that role much better.

Hmm. Maybe I ought to look up for other post you're referring to.

Ive played my Slann in our leaque 4 games now. And i started with your roster (3RR +apo). I agree with Ullis. Take wrestle on a lineman. The Krox will skill soon and need imo guard first. [/b]

Swap a RR and a lino for a 4th catcher, and skill a lino with wrestle (followed by fend, not strip ball imo).

The reason you need to levelup a liner is simply the fact that you won't ever be able to voluntarily level them up during the league. The krox will get CAS from 3die blocks, the catchers will easily levelup with TDs.

I find Piling on a nice skill on the Krox too, especially if you find yourself up against a lot of AV7/8 teams. Only use the skill if you successfully break armour, and only roll a "stunned" for the injury. Against AV7, you have a 45% chance of getting the opponent off the pitch, and you only have to use Piling on 1/3 of the times to achieve that!
