Where should my HE team go from here

Post by soranos »

Hi,
I'm playing with an High Elf team in a small league with Humans, Norse, Dark Elves, Skavan and Necromantics.

After 7 games my Team looks like this:

#1 Lineelf (0 SSP)
#2 Lineelf: Block, MA-1 (6 SSP; MNG)
#3 Lineelf (2 SSP)
#4 Lineelf: Dodge (8 SSP)
#5 Lineelf: Block, Dodge (17 SSP)
#6 Lineelf: Block (9 SSP)
#7 Phoenix: Leader, Accurate (30 SSP)
#8 Lion: probably Wrestle (6 SSP)
#9 Lion: Dodge (9 SSP)
#10: Dragon: Dodge (12 SSP)
#11: Dragon: Tackle (9 SSP; MNG)
#13: Lion: Nerves of Steel (13 SSP)

2 RR
6 FF
Apo
110k in Cash

As you might have noticed, I was pretty unlucky with skill rolls so far. Only 1 double on a Lion and I did not want to give guard to an unskilled AV7 player. Cash will go into the RR of course, I just want to wait the game of my next opponent to have a look at possible inducement scenarios. I have so far lost 1 lino along the way, but many MNGs (never had 12 guys for a match this season)

My question is, how should I continue to round out this roster? So far I have not picked up Kick, because I wanted to build up the line first, since there aren't any real slow teams in the league anyway.

1) How many players should this roster hold? Which players should I add? Personally I feel like the Lions are the HE biggest asset and I should get a forth one, once 1-2 the other 3 have 2 skills. But what then, should I had a 14th player? If yes, should I go for the second phoenix or a 7th lino?

2)Do you think it is a good idea to give Dauntless to next Block-Lino who skills up?

3)Should I go Dodge-Pass Block with the NoS-lion?
My plan for the other 2 lions: #8: wrestle, tackle, strip ball
#9: dodge, block, sidestep

4) my thrower needs protection, should I give him block or dodge with the next roll? or sure hands after all?

5) #10 dragon: ss, tackle next
#11 dragon: diving tackle, ss (or schould I go dodge as well?)
Do you think this is a good idea?

I'm hoping for your input...

I'd normally go wrestle on the lineelves but seeing the other races in the league then block may be the better choice in this case

could do with a couple more tackle players given the league make up

you have 12 players already so your thrower doesn't really need protection, you don't field him when you kick and just keep him covered when you receive

i'd look to get some sidestep asap as well, probably on the blitzers, long way from getting sidestep and diving tackle though on anyone

i'd have taken guard on the catcher personally, the team doesn't really need nerves of steel, you don't really need many doubles on high elves either 2 or 3 guard, perhaps a mighty blow could be handy but there are so many useful normal skills to take it isn't a big problem

also there aren't really any very strong teams in the league to worry about either making doubles even less of an issue

I'd take another reroll with the money usually, 2 is horrible (but then I'd not have taken leader) 4 (combined with leader) should be enough and you have a fair few with dodge already

then get the last catcher after that

welcome to the forum, hope that helps and good luck!

txs! I wanted to give wrestle to the dodge-lino and 2 of the lions. I hope that is sufficent in this non-bashing league.

Yes, SS on at least 2 players is a high priority now. So you would rather recommend Tackle or Sidestep over Dauntless on the next Block-Linos skilling up?

you are going to have more of a problem tying players down compared to hitting stronger players in this league

so you don't need dauntless (even in a really bashy league you can get away without it)

sidestep is a lot better for avoiding crowd pushes, setting up crowd pushes, tying players up and blocking routes the other team will want to move through
