Dark Elf Newbie - Game 1 down.
Hi all,
A pal and I have recently started a league between us (both playing 3 different teams each) until we can rope more people in.
Game one (against Necromantics) was a good but annoying result. I won 3-0 without injury but it was only on the 15th turn of the game we both noticed he had only fielded 10 players from the start.
I came away with a Lino with 6 SPP rolling 10+4. I don't think the +1MV or AV will make much difference to this player so am considering Dodge or Kick as a first skill.
Team winnings totalled 80k after that game. Would it be worth saving that to buy a Witch Elf after game two, buying a spare Lino or purchasing an Apoth?
Cheers Craig

I would go with dodge as the first skill - increase survivability. Once you have three of the linos with dodge, then get kick.
I think an apothecary would be a sound purchase. Better to have it available to save any of those positionals that get killed or maimed!

Cheers for the speedy reply.
I was leaning more towards Dodge this early on actually. Your probably right about the Apoth, I do seem to have a habit of getting Blizters killed in practice games.
Ps. I see what people mean about the Dark Elf curse, I lost count of the double 1s that got rolled in that game. lol

If your opponent screws up and fields only 10, how much different is it really from his screwing up and consistently leaving a 3-space gap, or forgetting to roll armor or making the wrong decisions about following on blocks? That's why you play dem games: even veterans make stupid mistakes like that sometimes.

If its a longer term league I would be tempted by the +1AV.
Take Block or Dodge next and gives him a little more survivablilty (longer) term.
Otherwise Dodge is solid. (Don't go to heavy on Dodge if you're going to face Dwarves though

I'll go the other way and say get Kick first, then start working on your dodge line elves. Kick has a much bigger impact on the game overall than having one lineman with Dodge will, the way I see it.
Kick modifies the way both teams on the pitch play - in your favor. It's a momentum builder for the whole team vs. a survivability tool for one single player.

I could agree with that!Khail wrote:I'll go the other way and say get Kick first, then start working on your dodge line elves. Kick has a much bigger impact on the game overall than having one lineman with Dodge will, the way I see it.

My Dark Elf lineman guide goes like this:
Lineman 1- Dodge, Block
Lineman 2- Kick, Side Step
Lineman 3- Dodge, Block
Lineman 4- Wrestle, Side Step
The secondary skills are just there for reference. Basically, I like my lineman to be mobile, and even 1 makes a big difference. So first up is Dodge.

I usually skill and use my lineman as follows (kicking/receiving:
1) Kick, Block -- Kicker(Linebacker)/Reserve Body
2) Side Step, (Dodge or Block, depending on league) -- Noseguard/Tight-End or Retriever
3) Wrestle, Dodge (or Side Step) -- D-End/Fullback or Retriever
4) Wrestle, Dodge (or Side Step) -- D-End/Fullback or Retriever
5) Side Step, Block -- Reserve Noseguard or Corner/Reserve TE (only retrieves once until he skills or you get mangled).

Remember that Dodge helps in positioning too and I think that's the best use for the skill. Positioning with elves is generally easy, but 1's can ruin any plan, especially as starting teams don't have too many rerolls and those rerolls are needed for ball handling and blocking too. Having Dodge on a few players makes positioning so much easier.craigpearson81 wrote:I can see the reasoning behind both Kick or Dodge first actually. I have a tendancy to get players killed with this team so Dodge will probably be my best bet.
Dark Elf linos are AV8 anyway so they're not too fragile.
