3rd skill on a Troll Slayer

Post by lerchey »

Hi Folks,

I have a dwarf team in a local league and they're doing really well. So far, their record is 12-2-2, they have suffered no permanent injuries and haven't lost any players.

Current roster looks like this:

1 Blocker - no new skills
1 Blocker - kick
1 Blocker - guard, stand firm
4 Blockers - guard
2 Runners - both have block and fend, one has KoR one has Dump Off
Blitzer - dodge, strip ball
Blitzer - jump up, tackle
Troll Slayer - mighty blow, +1 AV
Troll Slayer - mighty blow, stand firm, (normal skill)
Deathroller - no new skills

The current season only has one session left - Chaos Cup tourney.

I'm considering taking tackle for the TS's skill. That will make his ability to knock opponents down even better - this one is my CAS machine having scored 13 of the teams total 48 for the season. The other TS has 8, and the stand firm blocker has 6.

Anyway, while tackle seems to be a good choice as it turns Stumbles into opponent down, are there any suggestions for something better?

Thanks!

Piling on, should have taken it before stand firm/+AV on both trolls actually.

I all depends on what you face in the league (and C. Cup)

Juggernaut counters Wrestle, SF and Fend and gives him better pushing skills to break up those cages.

Piling On makes him a better killer.

Tackle is great.

Piling on would be my choice, it's use is just as situational as Tackle and it has a greater impact when used.

I'd agree with grim. Tackle will work against SOME teams, PO works all the time...And you don't NEED to use it if he'll be foul bait next turn.

if at first you don't succeed, try, try again....

Jugg is a great skill, but on a TS it is a negative skill as it only stops defensive skills it doesn't add to teh offensive potential - at least how I see it.

I like juggernaut myself. Allows a Troll slayer to get a 2nd block in when both down is rolled and you are hitting someone with block.

(but then, I'm not as fond of piling on as troll slayers only have an AV of 8 and it really slows them down next turn unless they also have jump up)

But it really enhances the Frenzy...

No more pesky Stan Firm:ers stoping you from opening their cage.

That Wrestling Strip Baller that is threatning your BC? Taken care of.

The Fend:er that protects the BC? Pushed away...

Does it also negate Grab? I don't remember.

I find it to be a very active skill. (At least since Grumbledook told me so yesterday) :P

yer juggs will get more crowd pushes and also cancels wrestle, which is both great for then hitting wrestle players and keeps your slow play on his feet

Interesting suggestions. So, the league I'm in is a bit odd... it's not run on a real schedule of games (e.g., you don't have a chart indicating which teams play each other), but rather kind of an open forum.

The league is new to me, but my understanding is that players whose teams are not doing well can bring in teams from previous seasons to play in the various bowl/championship games.

Teams I'm used to playing (e.g., I've faced them this season) include:

humans (doing well, but low on skills as they tend to lose players)
norse (were doing well, but with that low AV, their death rate is high)
goblin (not doing well at all, but the trolls are both fairly skilled)
chaos dwarf (doing moderately well)
chaos (doing pretty poorly)
undead (seem to be rather middling good, but only played them twice)
orcs (should be doing really well, but the player has about the worst dice luck I've ever seen)
necro (doing middling good)
halflings (team has only played 3-4 games)

Haven't run across ANY wrestle yet.
Have run across very little stand firm - IIRC, only the necro flesh golems and two of my own players.

Piling On would be OK, but since this TS doesn't have Jump Up, I think I'd rather avoid him being down. That said, the league seems to be fairly low on fouling - the goblins and flings do most of it, and then not that often.

I think for me it's between juggernaught (which I had half forgotten about) and tackle. I don't think I can go wrong with either, though I am now leaning towards Jugger.

I've been pretty good at setting up 2 die blocks in most cases, even with the frenzy with my TS, so I often have at least some kind of choice.

Not really sure (yet) which I'll take of those two. Both are very attractive, but one plus to tackle is that it decreases the opponents success rate at getting away from my TS by dodging out.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I'll make a decision before Saturday. The commish is supposed to announce what teams will be in the tournament and their TVs before the bowl. I might wait until then to make the final decision.
