Human Blitzer, uncertain about direction.
I have a human Blitzer I originally intended to be my hitman, so he got Mighty Blow as his first skill. However, on his second skillup he got +AG which was too good to pass up. Now, he just skilled up again. I was of course hoping for a double, but he got a normal skill so now I'm at a bit of a loss on where to take him. Should I capitalize on his AG and go with something like Stand Firm to help in a runner role, or go along with the "killer" route with Frenzy or Pile On?
Making matters trickier is that I've got another Blitzer who got +AG as a first skillup, so he's not an unique asset anymore. Also, I'm quite low on Guard in the team as a whole (only got it on the Ogre and on one Blitzer so far). Finally, the Blitzer in question went down to AV 7, so I'm not too keen on giving him Pile On; we're not too harsh with the fouling in my league, but he'd make a damn tempting target.
All the Blitzers so far are:
Blitzer #1: 7 3 4 7 - Block, Mighty Blow, ???
Blitzer #2: 7 3 4 8 - Block
Blitzer #3: 7 3 3 8 - Block, Strip Ball
Blitzer #4: 7 3 3 8 - Block, Guard

Guessing you are light on tackle as well, give the mighty blow guy tackle, then perhaps juggernaut (to cancel wrestle mainly)
the other one guard and his mobility means you can put it where you need it the most

I'd pick tackle too, but not jugs afterwards. Get guard, if he makes it to skill 4.
Get guard on the second blitzer as well.
Sack your strip ball blitzer, he's a waste.. Strip ball is a marginal skill on a AG3 player with block. Replace him with a MB/PO killer blitzer.

Get Guard. Mobile Guard is great. Tackle is a general skill, and so better suited to a lineman.

But Tackle on a lineman means that you are having to wait for the second skill to get it (the first being Block or Wrestle). Wouldn't it be better to get Tackle early and have a fast moving Block/Tackle player to act as a safety for the catchers that cross the LOS?Joemanji wrote:Get Guard. Mobile Guard is great. Not IMO. Wrestle substitutes nicely for taking down Blodgers, and MA isn't exactly slow (you can blitz the width of the pitch without a GFI). You need your ST access players in the thick of the action, not hanging back as a safety.Craigtw wrote:But Tackle on a lineman means that you are having to wait for the second skill to get it (the first being Block or Wrestle). I suppose I could see the argument for that - especially in a developed league. But I would still think that in the early stages that having at least one Block/Tackle player as a safety is a good idea to deal with the catchers before they become blodgers. After they are blodgers, then the Wrestle/Tackle lineman would certainly be the better option.Joemanji wrote:Not IMO. Re: Human Blitzer, uncertain about direction.
Tackle has lots going for it on this player:
He already has MB, with tackle he can target dodgers/blodgers who often come with AV7.
He has AG4 & MA7, he's likely to be available for the blitz, or even if multiple players are available he's the one most likely to get in due to his 2+ dodges.
If he later on rolls a double & gets dodge he's an elf-blitzer type defender (blodge, tackle, AG4, MA7+), with access to MB&guard..

Re: Human Blitzer, uncertain about direction.
Yep, he ended up with Tackle.
As for the Strip Ball guy, that was pretty much the first skill I took on the team after reading a guide suggesting two defensive Strip Ball Blitzers. In retrospect, I've been ... not regretting it, but certainly having second thoughts about it. I also strongly suspect it was an old article.
On the plus side, it's been great having him around. He's saved my bacon a couple of times, for example the last game when I beat a Norse team with over 500 more TV than me, where he was the only player I had who was able to stop my opponents Blodge, Side Step, AG4 Runner (which he did twice).
On the other hand, in retrospect, I'd rather have Strip Ball on a Wrestle Lino, simultaneously freeing up a skill on the Blitzers to use for Guard. I'd have sacked the Blitzer sooner, but I've been plagued by injuries so it's been taking its sweet time to get the Linemen developed. Thankfully, he's not too developed yet, so it won't be a huge loss to see him go.
So there you have it. It's been a learning experience and it's been a troublesome first season for Spartak Starograd.
