Dwarf Roster
Well, this wednesday I'm starting in a 10 or 11 man league, using the new CRP. My dwarfs (see converting dwarf post, full pictures to come later tonight) are back from being painted, so I'm using them. But I cannot decide on a roster. Seems to be a few bashy type teams and a few not so. The real issue is do I start with the Deathroller, do I leave it until later. If i do start with it how do I balance the team best? In short what do people recommend from experience?
Thanks

Re: Dwarf Roster
The Deathroller - if you MUST have it - is your thirteenth or fourteenth guy. Max positionals and get six Blockers first.
My start - with the new reroll cost - is pretty much a no brainer:
2 Slayers, 2 Runners, 2 Blitzers, 5 Blockers, 3 rerolls. That's 1000k on the nose.
If you want a twelfth dude to start with, then drop a Slayer down to a blocker and go with only two rerolls so you can afford a 7th Blocker.
You COULD drop both Slayers down to Blockers, and one Blitzer or Runner likewise for the fourth reroll...but I wouldn't.

Re: Dwarf Roster
liking the maxed positionals 3 rerolls approach a lot. Why do you say "if you MUST have the roller" though?

Re: Dwarf Roster
Because it's a lot of money for something that isn't terribly reliable (no block, no G access...even if it is getting three dice a lot of the time) and which will only be playing one drive most of the time.
Dwarfs HATE being men down...and with the sacrifices you'll have to make to get the thing on the field from day 1 your opponents will make sure that that drive is short.

Re: Dwarf Roster
The CRP (or LRB6) added Loner to the Deathroller, which further shifted popular opinion towards it being too much TV for too little player.
3 rerolls and all posisitionals is your best start and see from there.

Re: Dwarf Roster
damn, id missed the loner addition to skills for it. thats a very good point. i guess its something for later in the league IF ive got plenty of spare cash floating around. I'd want a bribe with it anyway, and like you guys say, I really cant see a starting 11 player roster with roller being a good idea. Thanks for your input, appreciate it : )

Re: Dwarf Roster
If your league allows chaoscup mutations, then get the deathroller if you make it to the CP finals. A tentacles deathroller is a menace. I never saw one, but imagine tieing 3 CWs with one big guy for a whole 8 turn grind. Or break tackling into a cage to tie the ballcarrier & 2 players while the rest of your team blitzes the cage corners/kills the catchers..

Re: Dwarf Roster
Occurred to me today...from the "full positional" roster, I'd consider dropping a slayer, adding a Longbeard and banking the remaining 20k towards your apothecary. Like I said, Dwarfs HATE being men down, and adding to the odds of getting that apoth quickly is not a bad idea.
