Ethics question

Your opponent shows up with models to represent his HC, Apoth, AC, and CL. During the match, he moves his HC, Apoth, AC and CL about the sidelines, mostly on your turn: he waits for you to complete your actions. After your player stuns his man and finds himself free, he might move the AC model along the sideline to mark that player's new blitz range, or whatever.

Is this ethical? I've never done it or seen it done, but if this community likes it I'm going to start using it on my buddies in hopes that it'll make them better square-counters.

I voted "I don't know." Revoting enabled.

Other players use dice to mark where they have to go so your player can't blitz them, where they want to park their cage, etc.

Why not. It's a simple thing of helping you remember certain things.
We jokingly call it "Kinder-Blood-Bowl", but I see nothing wrong with it.

Nothing wrong with it, I just see nothing it adds at all.

Sounds commendable to bring those extra figures to a match, and a smart way for making use of them.
I wouldn't use them like that since it might give my opponent clues to what I'm planning but I can't see a single reason why it would be unethical.

Yer loads of players in the UK mark squares with dice before moving players, helps make the turns go quicker than counting out again and again.

Don't see how this has anything to do with ethics.

Your poll also sucks, none of those options cover the "yes, nothing wrong with it" ;]

Nice idea to have the coaches running down the sideline if someone goes to the effort to actually to have coaching staff it makes a nice use for them imo

I'm asking because I'm looking for backup. I'm paranoid about this stuff, because I'm a hardcore rules lawyer. One time I got kicked out of a WFB league (good riddance, lame game) because I used the Pythagorean Theorem to guess ranges (on an 8' table, eyeballing to the inch sucks: I was counting from targets to the closest table-edge), so one man's fair use is another one's cheating.

This is what I hate about Blackjack. My head counts cards automatically: I can't turn it off. Because I know that it's important to know how many cards of what value have been played, then my brain ticks them off as they go by, so eventually, I let slip that I know there's only one six left out of 27 cards, and off I go. Games that expect you not to collect or correlate data you're allowed to access, those games are dishonest.

I think the use of the word "ethics" or "ethical" is a bit strong in this case (maybe an American thing where ethical is a pretty strong word). The guy is just using them as a marker so that he can remember what he is planning and so that he can plan out his turn better.

What if he had a pad of paper with the field on it and he marked that? Same thing. Some of us are getting up there in age and need reminders. :-?

Like others have said, I have seen people use dice or buttons or coins etc to mark where they want to go.

I have even seen it in PBEM. In fact I have done it myself by using the passing range template in PBEM to make sure I move my thrower to the square that I want him.

Cheesy? Maybe.
"Kindy-garten"? Maybe.
Cheating? I wouldn't think so.
