Dark Elf Blitzer rolling double 4
My DE team is expensive and I'm having a 265 TV strong team with 15 players. I use my dump-off runner alot (pass, nerves of steel, block, dodge and +AV) and I dump-off the ball to my blitzer with catch, dodge, side step and now rolling a double 4 for the blitzer.
I have some choices but I'm not 100% sure.
1. Nerves of Steel (always catching on a 2+, and maybe "last skill" will be pass block)
2. Juggernaut (push away stand firm players, and we have some dwarfs with diving tackle)
3. Guard (I have 2 guard players and I don't bash alot with my DE)
4. Forget about double and pick:
a. Shadowing (as my 4th player with that skill)
b. Pass Block (to minimize the opponents passing opportunities)

If you ususally dump off to your blitzer, and he use to be your plan for scoring if somebody sacks your runner, then NOS. But I'd say Guard. It's boring, but hey - that's what I would do.

Guard, Mighty Blow (if you don't have it already) or Diving Tackle.
I definately wouldn't take NoS. But I also would never have taken Catch.

Catch and Nerves of Steel feels pretty much like overkill on a DE blitzer and would have an almost purely offensive function. Guard or MB would be my choices. Guard isn't just a bashing skill. It has lots of defensive functions as well. I think Juggernaut is better for the witches.

Guard for the obvious blodge/sidestep synergy. He can be awesome in starting defensive drives. Your catch is overkill, NOS on top of that would make it a firing offence for me.

Elves with Guard are awesome. Especially DEs. If your bash opponent can't bully you, he is in a heap of trouble. The higher the TV, the more Guard you need to achieve this, so 3 is great.

Guard is always the ONE BEST ANSWER. That's boring on a piece like this.
FWIW, Nerves has a lot of defensive applications. Get the ball away, and you know you have a free scorer.

Re: Dark Elf Blitzer rolling double 4
But he already has Catch. So his opponent still needs to mark the player with at least 2 players, achieving the tactical advantage. NoS does not improve this, infact it might reduce it by making him too difficult to mark.

Re: Dark Elf Blitzer rolling double 4
If he's too difficult to mark, well, then your opponent leaves an unmarked man! That's even better! But it's highly unlikely, as this guy has "downfield picket" written on his forehead. (Just be sure to cover the Grabber!) Nerves of Steel will see use. I'm not arguing that it's necessarily the best selection, but in context it's a good contender, and it's a lot of fun.
Ever play Pro Elves? It's not Guard, but on ST3/AG4/Catch/Blodge/SS, Nerves of Steel is just evil.

Stashman - I think you have made the right choice.
Whenever I have played Elves (Dark, High, Wood, Pro, whatever) I have found that the team plays well with 2 Guards, but outstandingly with 4.

But a Pro Elf catcher has it built into its statline for 10k. This blitzer is giving up a skill roll (a doubles even!) and 30 TV for it. Absolutely not worth it IMO.mattgslater wrote: Ever play Pro Elves? It's not Guard, but on ST3/AG4/Catch/Blodge/SS, Nerves of Steel is just evil.

Re: Dark Elf Blitzer rolling double 4
Again, it's not Guard. If you're always winning, then you can drop late selections on fun, usable skills. NOS is fun and usable, that's all I'm saying.TuernRedvenom wrote:But a Pro Elf catcher has it built into its statline for 10k. This is actually the best argument for Pro Elves: on an AG4/Catch piece who has/can get at least three of the Power Four (Dodge/Block or Wrestle/Guard/SS or SF), Nerves is actually an optimal skill, and totally worth the double. Power skills are power skills, and are never poor choices, but a combo skill is the next best thing, and NOS is a great combo skill. Definitely if he gets doubles at 76: NOS/Guard has obvious combo value.
