My league stopped using any pre-built Star Players two seasons ago, and looking back on it, its the best thing we ever did to our league.

All Star Players do, is take the emphasis away from developing your own rookie players into genuine Stars. The NBA Snotling League has produced many Stars in the two seasons, using the Thrower in the previous thread, here's a Home Grown Human Thrower:

Benny Bullseye, Star Thrower, 6 3 4 8, Sure Hands, Pass, Accurate, Safe Throw, Strong Arm

and here's the league's infamous Human Thrower:

Charlie Safeands, Star Catcher, 10 2 3 7, Catch, Dodge, Sprint, Sure Feet, Side Step, Block

These are players that have started from nothing, a pre-built SP destroys the enjoyment in developing your team into the above genuine stars.

I totally agree. Also dump allies and move big guys onto the team rosters where they belong. No more every team looking alike.

I disagree, i think star players add another level to the game. It's much more fun to play with star players.
About the SPP problem, i think it's a good thing! (I'm not insane) I don't like it when people got "Super Heroes". C'mon, just look at the Thrower Johnny posted. He can throw a long bomb on 3+. It's way to good, better than any regular star player ever could. Or just look at the catcher.

10 2 3 7, Catch, Dodge, Sprint, Sure Feet, Side Step, Block

This guy is 10 times better than Jordell Frezhbreeze, and i find him too good. Well maybe not 10 times better , but sill when your team is going well you will get LOTS of SSP and almost all of your players will be star players. So if you have 1-3 three star players on you team, i think they will "steal" some of the other players SPPs.
And make the team more even.

My Team includes 3 star players. Oberwald, Zub and von Altdorf. And the team is going great, Griff got the most tuchdowns but it's not like he's the only player i use. Mattias Meier (Blitzer) is scoring tuchdowns like a madman. So you can have a team with star players and still have it well balanced.

Unfortunately, Charlie Safeands, the Human Catcher left my team at the end of the season (during the crush), luckily he wasn't snapped up by any other team (due to some shrewed bidding).

Using such events as the crush, it does purge the big teams of their stars if they don't win any tournaments which clears out players like those I posted.

Ouch, not funny. How long did it take to give him all the skills/stats?

It's my Human team, Couronne Flamers, that I've been playing for 2 seasons which works out at approx. 30 games. I was robbed during the BloodBowl Semi which I lost, and diddn't have any money to pay his retainer. From a large number of players in the team, he was the only one that wanted a retainer to stay, luckily I managed to keep my ST4 Blitzer.

I play in the same league as JohnnyP and have to say I agree with him ! before we ditched Stars so called hard players ( black orcs, Chaos warriors etc.. ) were getting buried game in game out ! but now with the stars gone these players have really come into their own ! We have grown some great players and lost them due to death but that is the way it goes !

With the new rules, I think every player should decide if they want an expensive starpl. for which they have to pay every match, or let your team evolve. I think it's a smart idea to buy starpl. for your really big matches, but they will become costly. Therefore, if my opponent plays with starplayer(s), He is either affraid of me, or has another good reason why he prefers the big guy, above evolving his own players.

Actually, I guess that Johnny's starplayer catcher would have cost him 100.000 per game as well.

I feel all of your star player pains... The league that I play in has become more of a star league than a normal team league. Everyone has to have a minimum of 2 stars on their team to even compete. I think that is why I am looking to leagues like MBBL-Online. I think I may start a league in my area that bans Stars. I mean if you compare a Star team that can get a couple of good stars in the first two games with those teams that cannot... You will see that the star teams will dominate. Sure they may not grow as well as the others in the long run but if they can keep you in the hurt locker then they don't have to worry about the long run...

Martin, I take it you're still playing 3e? JohnnyP, how about your league? I noticed in another thread you said the NBA was using 3e 'products'. I totally agree that the DZ SPs were way overpowered in 3e, but they're not so hot in 4e with OSPA, and esp. not with AF's. We're playing 4e, and most Stars are going at the end of the season. Be glad to see the back of ****ing Griff!

We have been using 3e, but are switching to the 4e for our new season. We will use all rules in the 4e with the 'Wizards on the pitch' rules mentioned in the House Rules forum.

Griff was one of the finest players, but if he was in my Human team now, he'd be a run of the mill Blitzer with a ST increase. I have better home grown players for performing most of Griff's wonder plays.

Are you sure?
Griff = 7 increases (251+ SPP's). 1 roll of 12, 1 roll of 11, 1 roll of 10 and 4 doubles!
Now my maths may not be up to working out the exact odds, but I know they're pretty astronomical!

I agree with Deathwing about the Stars under 4e. We've brought them back into our league, and also made them worth double their cost when calculating TR.
