Maturing Vamp Team 2 Skills to Choose

Post by AfroCelt »

Hello all;

Ive been running these vamps through about 15 games in a casual league at the local store. MVPs are chosen by the coach, and the other teams I play are quite bashy. Undead, Norse, Nurgle, Orc, Necromantic, Khemri, Chaos Dwarves, Humans, Goblins, Flings, Dark Elves, plus some I do not remember.

The team build is as follows:

1. Vamp. Block, Dodge, Sidestep
2. Vamp. Block, Dodge, Leap
3. Vamp. Block, Dodge, (+normal)
4. Vamp. Block, Dodge, Tackle, (+normal)

7-15 are all unskilled Thralls...mine die too quickly to skill up without coddling :) .

I don't really know where to go at this point....Pro seems nice, but is it really worth the Team Value? Maybe some ball handling skills...maybe strip ball/tackle/leap/mighty blow? No idea.

Anyone see where to go with these guys? Thanks for the help.

Is each Vamp going to have their own job on the pitch, or are they going to be jack-of-all-trades type players who do whatever is needed at the time?

I'd suggest making one your designated hitter with Mighty Blow/Frenzy, then perhaps make your Tackle Vamp a safety-type backup. The Leap and Sidestep Vamps can then run/pass/catch with it while the other two are hitting people/flattening dodgers.

if you can choose the MVP you should be skilling up a Thrall every game, they can easily get a completion by passing to a vamp, I guess you have been giving them to the vamps all the time

leap was a bit of a waste given hypnotic gaze and ST4 players can open up paths fairly easily

I don't like pro on vampires, at least not until perhaps the 5th skill (4th at a push)

frenzy is great to have one one, though it looks like you are facing a lot of guard which can cause problems as you don't have any

mighty blow could be good then, though I would think about what types of players you are having the hardest time playing against and look to pick a skill to help with that part of the game

Wow quick responses...thanks guys!

I'm at a bit of a crossroads with the team...I think I'll be building specialists, but I have not started it yet. Vamps 1 and 2 are def. ball handlers for me, and 3 and 4 have been hitters. Sidestep Vamp has played havoc in the league, and currently enjoys an 40k bounty put up by rival coaches.

I've had troubles against the nurgle player, along with a chaos guy. Both are good coaches.

so if I specialize 3 as a hitter and 4 as a safety, I'd go #3 Frenzy/MB, #4...Side Step? Pass Block? I do like a blodging str4 agil4 frenzy MB guy...and it at least give me a shot at keeping the bashy teams back.

Thanks again guys.

stripball or diving tackle for the safety, though probably best to get side step before diving tackle

oh and start skilling your thralls!

For some crazy reason I thought they'd get enough by CAS and the occasional score...but every single one of them has died at least once :P . makes me question the wisdom of skilling them, besides maybe wrestle/fend .

Not considered strong arm for one of your vamps? Or the ball is always a thrall's issue? in such case a thrall needs sure hands asap!!

You can really have a lot of fun developing Vamps as total individuals:

One Passer (Strong arm, sure hands, pass and/or accurate on doubles)
At least one hitter (Mighty blow, frenzy)
One or more catchers (Catch, Sidestep, Fend)
One defensive guy (Sidestep, Diving Tackle, Tackle)

But, as has been said, don't forget the thralls with some basic skills!

wrestle and fend are all most thalls would really need, as I said you can get them a skill after one match if you just get a completion with at least one a game and give that guy the MVP

even getting 3 with wrestle will help you loads and cut down the amount of times they all get injured

MB/PO on one....

Hmmmm, how 'bout Pass Block + Shadowing on the other...? That would be irritating....

And get yourself a thrall with kick. If you need to do this repeatedly, it's worth it.
Vamps are obscene on defence.
Give any other thralls Wrestle and Strip Ball in that order.

IMO

I haven't played vampires, but wouldn't 3 sure hand players be total overkill? Sidestep and diving tackle would be much more annoying imo. Or what about guard? Is that a big no-no with vamps?

Guard would be fine.... Gaze the opponent's lone guard and exert one of your own.... 8)
