Bringing new team to established league

Since I'm potentially facing this issue, I figured why not make a broader topic out of it? My situation is that after this season I might continue with my Dark Elves, but since they haven't done particularly well (W5-D2-L3) and most important haven't skilled up very impressively, I'm contemplating switching to another team. That got me thinking along the lines of what would be a good team to bring to a league where everyone else play's experienced teams? Any particular strengths or weaknesses for specific teams operating with a bunch of inducements?
In my particular case, the league will have teams with only 1 season behind them (so no ultra advanced teams) around the 1600 TV mark, but those teams are hugely bash intensive with scarcely any elves in sight (only two teams this season, including my darkies and it's doubtful either will continue with them).
Looking specifically at teams I might be interested in.. Chaos for one. They take some time to skill up and I'm a bit unsure if they can hack it uphill. Orcs I think might be more advantaged with a working set of skills right out of the gate. Playing Lizardmen is just asking the killer teams to maim and kill my Sauruses. If I'm going bash to fit in, I'm also contemplating if I should go the Mighty Blow route - picking up that skill very early and very often. Usually, that's definitely not my approach, but the scenario here suggests to me that grabbing SPPs through any means necessary is the way to become competetive fast.
Anyway, I'd appreciate your thoughts on my particular situation or any general insights into bringing rookie teams to experienced leagues.
