Wood Elf Catcher rolls +1 AG

His first skill was a double and I took Nerves of Steel, so now I feel the +1 AG would be a slight waste. And I was really looking forward to Block. However I know the value of having a AG 5 player on a WElf team. I am torn. What says the TFF hivemind?

take it and run. never tunr down ag5, escially on an elf cacher.
NOS may not seem optimal, but it dos mean that he can dodge into tackle zones, grab the ball an heavit up field without a care in the world.

AG5 would be great, but I think you're right that with NoS he'll simply get a lot more mileage out of Block and his increased resistance. He'll almost always need a 2 to catch and to dodge, so AG5 will have only situational uses. Not to mention that putting him into areas with lots of tacklezones or for dangerous pickups is going to leave him in harms way where an opponent won't waste anytime in taking him down / fouling.

He will have the tools to level up to his next Block easily.
The thing is, he either die and you haven't lost much, you can start afresh and cut a massive 70k on your TV, or he gets block and he's a unique SOB who does what the hell he wants with the ball. I'd go for it.
My only problem is the 160k price tag on this ST2 AV7 no Block piece of meat.

Take the +AG. I find that the main benefit of AG5 is insane dodging, not just ball handling.

Forget Block... it's not needed now.
NOS AG5 catcher is a passblocker.
Quickly you'll need:
Passblock
Leap
As he is in defence you can shield him from the other loons on the pitch.
Even if he does not use this skill much he makes the opponent think about passing. 4+ intercept with a reroll!
Moreover it will slow down his progression as he becomes a defensive player.
But give up on block, because the next 'good' skill will be a long way away, remember: 6, 16, 31, 51 (you are topping out about here) and if you really go mad and absorb more you may get to 76 etc.
The way to play him now is get ball, hand off/throw and score. Just shield him against the offense. What is more expect the other teams to be getting Tackle (IMO any league with WE in it and other teams do not take Tackle are bonkers) and having block is not going to help you much but may think 'he's got block and is safe'... oh no, no block be paranoid about this player.

Smurf entertaining as always =D.
take the +AG, shame he has a useless skill (never take NOS) but the +AG is still worth it.

New entry for the "worst advice ever" contest!
I'd make this guy my ball retreiver after the Wardancers do their business. Block then Sure Hands. Maybe Leap after.

Well IMO the Block Surehands, is not just dull it's not using the team to its full potential. All that creates is a TD magnet.
What is a AG +1, block , surehands going to achieve that the WE cannot already do. Scoring is not a problem, stopping the opposing team is.
The player is better in defence.

The point is: nobody good passes against WEs where Pass Block could come into play. If the opposition is trying that, you should beat them comfortably anyway. So it is an entirely wasted skill.

That makes no sense. You are implying that all games vs WEs are running games with cages etc. No pressure to get the TD before the whistle. PB means it does deny a lot of throwing, which is a result, I've played games where the other team has no choice to throw the ball because it has gone loose, better me trying to intercept on a 5+ than pick up on a 2 or 3+. Hence the PB has a use, likewise an orc thrower thought he was safe to Long Bomb after a very messy drive, my Catcher bounced over player and got an interception.
The clock ticks and the pressure is on to get that point.
IMO, PB is not used all the time but as a threat it is huge.

Well yes, most Blood Bowl games are played like that.
Blood Bowl is all about limiting chances of failure, and obviously the best way not to fail is to not even roll, so running the ball is superior to passing.
I don't think I ever saw the Pass Block skill being used. I think it's hands down the worst Blood Bowl skill.
In an average game I make 1.22 passes (just checked my league stats), and that's including my pro-elf team that farms SPPs with two throwers passing the ball to each other in the backfield. Obviously they only do that when no opponent is within blitzing distance, and I'm not even talking about pass blockers.

Exactly.
I make an average 0.49 passes per game on FUMBBL. Most of those cheap comps for SPPs when in no danger if I fail.
There is a reason the range ruler is affectionately known in the TT tournament scene as "the lose-o-meter".

In short: Pass Block is an excellent choice in theory...but you'll never get to use it.
The Range Ruler is for last turn "may as well have a go" lobs. In any other situation Joe is right.
take the AG5, then Leap would also be amusing. That should be 2+ leaps if I've worked it out right.
