Norse-Strip ball

Post by shaniepoo »

In my league at the moment I have played 8-9 games and the skills have started to roll in. The other day me and one of the other lads in the league were talking about how each team has developed. When we came to my team he looked at me with an odd frown and said 'fair enough'.

I have given 3/4 of my line men Strip ball as their 1st skill. I have my blitzers and throwers kitted out as star players (lots of skills) and so use my line men as a line breaker to stop people getting past them.

Whats your oppinion, is it a good or bad idea?

I'm not a big fan of strip ball. IMO Its best used on War Dancer types. Basically its really good when it works, but it only works when you are on defence and then only on 1 opponent - who is normally the hardest to get to.

I'd much rather have tackle across the board as it always works. Elves, Amazons and stunties will hate playing a team full of Block Tackle.

I'd agree. Having strip ball on most of your linemen doesn't really serve a lot of purpose that I can see. I usually give it to 1 or 2 fast players with leap that can get into a pocket and knock the ball away, but Norse linemen aren't quick enough to make it effective. Plus, it's completely useless against sure hands and a smart player will take advantage of this. I'd agree with Ian and take tackle for a general skill for linemen. Makes them absolute monsters on the line.

I've never seen a lineman with strip ball!!
But I would never take it for a lineman neither. I'd go for tackle on these guys since they allready has block.

on a double I'd give them guard

Well I'd give 1 kick, 1 or 2 DP (if that suits the style) and the rest tackle. Dodge on doubles (you've got 4 Berserker guards so emphaise protecting those Av7 linemen).

I dont understand Strip Ball on linemen either

In fact my lineman take a back seat, they are pretty much safety nets and slowdown people.

My catchers have just shot up, and my Blitzers nicely

But one of the first skills id take is Tackle, or double with guard and give the strip ball to my Catchers.

Its not so good on my linemen, they dont get into the right sort of positions, and the Blitzers have frenzy so not needed as much if your hitting them twice. However on a catcher, who with thier block skill regulary stray into opposition territory, it would be grand!

Wish id thought of it earlier..................

I don´t think Strip Ball has too much use for a norse lineman either... but I also find that giving Tackle to most linemen as their first skill is kinda overkill.

Of course, Tackle is more useful that SBall on a norse lineman, but I don´t think that is needed all around. I always give my first two linemen Tackle, but next comes Kick for the third and DPlayer for the fourth. After I have my first 4 linemen equipped with those, it´s Pro time.

Pro is a really nice skill to get when you have Block already. I like Pro all around because you cannot predict stat increases, and when a Block/Pro norse lineman gets ANY stat increase, he suddenly becomes a true star player. On his third skill; if he got a +1 MA just give him Shadowing. On a +1 ST, give him Tackle or Strip Ball, and if he was lucky enough to get +1 AG, give him Pass Block.

If you give a guy Tackle and gets a +1 AG for his second skill... You´ll wish you gave him Pro instead.

Sure, most of the time they won´t get any double or stat increase for their second skill roll... then it´s time to give them Tackle. A Block/Pro/Tackle lineman is just perfect, isn´t it?

I played with a norse team, they have all block,
my suggest is to give them tackle, if you have a line up with block and tackle it is a pain to most agility teams.
One of my lineman always gains kick. It is really good when playing against slow team like dwarves or chaos dwarves.
If you role a double then guard is the best choice. Your opponent won't break your line easily.
