AG5 Gutter runner rolls +AG... excessive or AWESOME?

Post by Porkus_Maximus »

To give some perspective the full skaven roster is as follows;

stormvermin: guard/claw
stormvermin: guard/mb
Gutter Runner: wrestle, +MA
Gutter Runner: wrestle, tackle
Gutter Runner: big hand, two heads
Gutter Runner: +AG, 5+6 skill up
Thrower: accurate
linerat: kick
Linerat x5: rookie

The Gutter Runner development is perhaps... less than ideal, I just can't resist taking mutations on skaven, in my opinion skaven take full advantage of the various mutations rather than just claw claw claw claw zzzzzzzzz. My gutter runners are extremely effective at grabbing a loose ball although without block they tend to drop it again pretty quick if they can't move it far away enough.

I'm considering in no particular order;

Block - Boooooring but at least one of my Gutter runners need this skill... or do they?
Leap - 2+ leap trololololol.
+AG - 2+ through 2 TZs, 3+ through 3 TZs. Will probably get too carried away dodging through TZs, roll snake eyes and promptly die.
Pass block - 4+ interceptions might be cool, altough it may never be used.

I'm not MASSIVELY concerned with min/maxing this team or anything, but I don't want to spend 40 TV if it's not even going to come into play most of the game. What would you guys do?

You can't really defend against AG6 with dodge on an MA9 player. 2+ rolls on dodges, catches, pickups... I'd get him leap as well when possible (i.e. after block) and he'll be a terror.

I would take the AG6. It opens up possibilities you can only otherwise dream about.

If you cannot stall out for an 8 turn drive to score with dwarves then you need to go and play canasta with your dad..if you can find him.

He's gone from 0 spp to 16 spp in the space of 2 games on account of a lucky MVP, it's not like I've had an ag5 gutter running prancing around for half a season or anything.

Why the exclusive "or"? It is both excessive and awesome.

I'd take the +AG.

Take the AG then block, pass block and leap (with V long legs or dumpoff in there on a double). Intercepting on 3+ (possibly 2+) shuts down anyones passing game. My AG5 darkelf runner has made 4 crucial intercepts since he got passblock AG6 would be awesome.

+AG no doubts about it.

He is barely a rookie, you have certainly at least two more skills to refine him.

Block is necessary as next skill. But afterwards you could consider Leap, Dauntless... Never pick up Pass Block. It is waste a skill in your best player that probably he will never use... moreover when you have a bunch of other, more useful, skills.

Totally agree with this, block and leap are both great on him with AG6 and passblock is a complete waste on anyone.

You may not actually use AG6 that much so if you are in a league where the next few matches are vital then I’d consider taking boring block. However AG6 is much cooler.

What's the story with leap???

With AG6 you dodge in two tackle zones on a 2+, it should be more than enough for 99% of your dodges, you even have an 88% chance of entering a cage, that's higher than the chance of success on a leap.

I've got a pro-elf thrower with AG6 - at this stage he succeeds at nearly everything on 2+ so his problem is the dreaded double one more than anything else, I see no need for Leap. Survival skills such as side-step are probably better than Leap.

Anyway that's a long time away, he'll probably be fouled to death before he can get another two skills...
