Set ups for a new Vampire coach

Yes it has happened this year I have decided to take Vampires to the HDWSBBL. The problem is that I have not one ounce of experience with them apart from one game last night where I had one thrall left on the field (due to a lot of Vampire love).
In light of this glaring (or is that hypnotic gazing!?

) lack of expertise I am wondering if anyone has any set ups for kicking and receiving? Or general ways of keeping the food *sorry* thralls away from danger in a TV1000 team that has 3 vamps, 8 thralls, 5 RR.
I was planning to use a set up for receiving with 2 thralls and a Vamp on the LOS then 2 vamps further back ready for the ball with thrall helpers who can reach any direction. On defense I used 3 thralls up on the LOS with Vamps further back covering the thralls that would move with them. Is this a good idea? how do you do it?
Cheers
The Doc

I'm far from pro with vamps, but think 1 vamp and 1 thrall to get the ball is enough. Place thrall where your vamp want to end his turn, pickup ball with vamp and move next to thrall in case of bloodlust.
Defense I only tried with 4 vamps, but used a standard ziggurat. Thralls on LOS.

The trouble with setting up 1 thrall comes when he's hit by a flying rock

I usually have two thralls and a vampire back for the pick up. One thrall covers the ball, the other moves to where you want your vampire to end up.
Usually on defense I'd set up like
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=29010&p=516943&hili ... er#p516943 with the three vampires in the central zone

First, keep your vamps off the line of scrimmage at all times. If you lose vampires, you're going to be in trouble.
Second, don't plan to use too many at the same time; four on the pitch is generally enough, at least at the lower TV levels. Your plan to use three is good. Equally, always ensure that you have at least one re-roll per vampire at the start of the game.
On ball retrieval, I have happily used one vamp and one thrall - you really want the vampire to have the ball. The couple of times I've had a thrall as my ball carrier, it's been a panicked drive, really uncomfortable.
I play really, really aggressive on defence. 3 thralls in the middle, then four more, one in each wide zone, only one square back. behind each of the 'backfield thralls', place one vampire. That means that wherever the ball is (so long as it's near the halfway line), I can blitz the ball carrier with some good gazing.
Oh, and my experience isn't exactly phenomenal, so maybe take that with a pinch of salt.
