1 player Underworld team fields 11 for the next drive!

Post by Smeborg »

I thought I would share the following little piece of fun. My league Underworld team was reduced to 1 player on the pitch (the Troll) the other night (by Undead, following a Blitz! in my favour, I swarmed the short kick and got mashed).

1 player surfed to reserves, 5 KOs, 4 CAS (including both 2-skill Throwers MNG). Since I started with 16 players, 6 came on from reserves and 4 recovered from KO (I had a Babe), for 11 back on the pitch. Not bad, eh! Well, 7 were Gobbos, but 11 "men" is 11 men...

I still lost the game, but I had 2 good scoring chances (notwithstanding no Throwers!), so I can't complain. Got 11 to the second half too [Edit: 5 CAS by then, but the doughty 11 fought on].

All the best.

LOL!

But what are you doing with 16 players in your team anyway? 14 should be enough, and the 80k (or more) tv bloat you would have avoiden whould have allowed you (with the 50k that you now got a babe for) to get Nobbla Blackwart, who is great vs AV 7 (i.e. Ghouls) and decent vs AV 8 (Wight & Zombies).

At 100 TV, I start with 12 + Apoth, buy Gobbos until I have 14, then wait until the league gets bashy (i.e. increase in Tackle/M-Blow, especially in combination). This does not take long. Then I move to 16 players. After 13 games, my CAS count stands at 25:45, the 16 players have stood me in good stead in the last 6 games or so. From memory, I moved to 16 players for game 8 (against the same Undead opponent), perhaps a little earlier. It is common for me to get to the second half or the last drive with 11 (sometimes 10) men, and that is when I start with 16.

I am not a fan of SWs unless I can afford a Bribe as well. With Underworld, I tend to take the "health care"package of inducements, for example, if I have 150,000 in inducements, I will take a Wandering Apoth and a Bribe, rather than the Wizard. The Wandering Apoth will often be used to bring a skilled Skaven player back to reserves.

The Underworld, because they are so squishy, are not like a normal team when it comes to roster depth - I agree that for most races, 14 will usually be enough.

All the best.
