Skaven at the NAFC (105, resurrection, 6 skills)

I'm planning on taking my Skaven to the NAF Championship in May. Set up is straightforward - 105 TV, resurrection and 6 normal skills to be taken (1 before each match).

My planned roster is:
4 Gutter Runners
2 Blitzers
1 Thrower
6 Linemen
3 Re-rolls

I'd like to turn 2 Gutters into turnover players (probably 1 Strip Ball, 1 Wrestle), and a 3rd to pick up a loose ball with Sure Hands. Leader on the Thrower and Guard on one of the Blitzers seems sensible.

Do I take Kick on a Lineman, a 2nd Guard Blitzer or a Block Gutter Runner? Or do I start afresh and look at something else entirely?

Also, what order do I take the skills in?!

All thoughts welcome :)

Leader seems a bit over kill, 3 rerolls should be fine

But as for the order it depends on what you play.

If you got zons in game one, i would take tackle on a blitzer, but if you got flings, maybe block a runner.

Its impossible to plan really. But thats just my 2 cents.

Thanks stan - I guess I just like the security of 4 re-rolls! My worry with tackle is that it might only be of use in a couple of games, whereas most of the other skills in the hat are universal.

No right or wrong answers to the skill choice or orders. If I where taking that team I'd have three or four skills I'd want by game six, but the rest would just fall into the 'whatever helps me win this game' category.

On that lineup, first question is do you definately want (need?) four rerolls? If you do then skilling the Leader at some point early is a certainty. After that, with you only having six players to skill you don't want any skills on Linerats. The two Vermin should be getting skills early and then it's just give a Gutter something good each game.

Stormvermin with Guard or Mighty Blow depending on your playstyle are always handy. Tackle is very good against some teams and as you say wasted against others. My rule of thumb at lower skill tourneys is that a Block/Mighty Blow player is equally as useful as a Block/Tackle as long as you have someone else capable of getting the ball should they have it in the hands of a Blodger. For that reason I like a Mighty Blow Blitzer once I have a Strip Ball or Wrestle Gutter Runner.

Without knowing who you will play it's almost impossible to give a line up of skills to take and in what order. I'd be inclined to skip Leader (three rerolls is enough for me, but it all depends on what you're comfirtable with and how risky you play), and make sure by the end of Day One I had one or two skilled Stormvermin (Probably with Guard or Mighty Blow), and one or two skills on a Gutter (Probably Wrestle, Block or Strip Ball). Kick is a great skill but I prefer something I'll be able to use every turn rather than just 2-3 times a game. It does help a lot against bash though, so depends if you struggle against them?

Bit vague, but I never plan a progression skill tourney, just wait and see what sits in front of me and choose accordingly. Hope some of that helps?

Hmmm - a mighty blow blitzer is worth considering. And yes, I guess I will have to be responding to whatever I end up facing ;-)

I took this roster and went 1/1/4 last year -

1 vermin
4 runners
thrower
rat ogre
5 linemen
Apo
2 RR

Pretty dismal result but not a bad roster I thought! :-) The obvious problem is the single vermin, but I worked on the principle that the big rat and runners were the key pieces for skavs. 12+apo was meant to make them durable, which I think would do most of the time...

Skilled them as follows I think:
Leader thrower
Kick runner
Strip ball runner
Juggernaut rat ogre
MB blitzer
... something else ...

For skills it's worth having a loose idea what you'll need but you can of course choose based on your opponent so e.g. you might not take strip ball against a sure hands team.

Anyway, good luck and happy painting! Enjoyed following the other modelling thread. Team looks awesome.

See you at NAFC :-)

Very much looking forward to it.

I do enjoy using a rat ogre but think they're a bit too unreliable for tournies
