chaos pact advice

I just finished my first game with a new pact team and an looking for some advice.

1) First skill on my chaos troll was double 1's. Block seems like the best choice but are there any others you would consider?

2) Is the mino worth having on the team? Part of the reason you play this team is for the 3 big guys but you can get 3 player for the same price. I'm not sure he's that good.

1) Block, yes. The darkhorse, for me, is Tentacles.

2) I think that the entire point of playing Chaos Pact is to play ALL 7 positionals. If you are wanting to min/max, then try Chaos. Just my opinion. :)

The mino's inefficient and the troll's a pain. Most of the time one or both of them will turn on you; the troll will stupid and the minotaur will double skull your blitz away.

1) Tentacles on the troll. Have him mark a couple of players on the LoS or push some in to his grasp and you get instant player advantage without ever having to activate him. Stand Firm next if your MVPs conspire to give you a 'next'. Block/Guard/Grab on the Ogre, Claw/Juggernaut/Break Tackle for the Mino.

2) It depends on the format, I guess; I took him in a short league and frankly he was a liability. Still, he was a fun liability, and I never felt I needed the reduced TV; despite two +ST and one +AG marauders, the TV stayed remarkably trim. He never won me a game, but he had the potential to do so; and with so much access to guard 3 die blitzes are common (when you can roll a two or higher).

TV100 at start?

I'm used to start with only the troll & the mino (and not the ogre) when i played chaos pact in league format (TV100)

The Troll is more cheap than the ogre, the +1Mv & +1Ag is not really need for the use of the troll/ogre (i used both of them as a prop, they are doing few block, and trying to gave them Guard + Stand Firm as soon as possible)
Concerning the other difference between the ogfre & the troll: regen is better than thickskull, but bonehead better than really stupid. The only other advantage for the ogre is his better TTM capacity (because of the better move...), but, this bonus does not justify at league start the extra cost of the ogre.

For the double skill on the troll, i would go for block because i assumed you have very few skills in your new team. (if it was the 3rd skill on your troll after guard & standfirm, i would have choose Tentacules)

Concerning the mino, ok, it's not reliable because of the wild animal, but it's a good blitzer.

And because he doesn't try to eat the goblin every time you throw him ;)

I don't disagree. So far in our league every pact team has had the mino. I was just looking at other option that hadn't been done. For the same price as the mino you can get 3 mauraders that will skill up fasterI can't see having a 15 man roster with a mino but without him I think it would work. Then you will have the numbers to build a catcher or 2, maybe even a dirty player. Try to think outside the box and play the team a bit different than everyone else.

Possibly the best "alternative path" for pact that I have heard of is to create a rugby style team by giving all marauders wrestle/dump off. Add extra arms if you ever get that far. I think this concept was proposed on 3DB. With ag3 it's not going to be pretty but if you pulled off multiple dump offs during your opponents turn... Man that'd be cool!

Chaos Pact is the ultimate minmax team. 11 marauders, an elf, 2 RR's and Leader comes in at the low, low price of 780.

12 players, 3 rerolls, AG4 and access to all the skills you could ever need.

Happily it takes so much time to get such a team rolling properly that it's unwieldy for tabletop.

1) Absolutely Block. Turns him from a liability into your best player. Something like Tentacles is cool but it does not have the same impact.
2) I hate the Mino, 150K of nothing much. Playing well is about positioning, positioning is about movement, the Mino cannot be relied upon to move. On tabletop if you are playing 'to win' then I think just the Troll and Ogre are enough.

I like this idea!

My thought was that you can't really out bash a bashy team but with a couple of catcher and a thrower you could try and elf them. The opposite strategy could be use against a fast team hitting there line and wrestling down there catcher then fouling them. It would interesting to see the results.

I did take block. A little boring but makes him a lot better.

BLOCK come on it makes your big guy much more reliable. I gave up a str on a mumy to get block a normal double is a no brainer.

1) I'll be completely unoriginal and say take 'block'. It's boring but it works so very well.

2) I've never really played Chaos Pact in leagues but I would definitely take the Mino. You can get three players for the same price yes, but you can't get all those three players on the field at the same time. I also think you need to consider the Mino's psychological impact. He doesn't have to hit every turn. He's very good at just being a threat or holding up one part of the field, especially if you could get him tentacles.

1) take block
2) play with all the big guys. Guard and let the dumb ones and be roadblocks, blitz with the mino, foul with the hobgoblins
