League Game tonight - my Chaos Dwarfs vs Lizardmen - help?

Hi everyone,

Would anyone have any suggestions for my upcoming match?

Last year with my Orcs I only lost one game - and it was to this team. This season with Chaos Dwarves I have also lost one match. I really want to win this one. The lizard coach and me have a kind of rivalry going.

His team has 5 skinks (most have block and sidestep), 6 saurus all with block and a few with guard and/or mighty blow and one kroxigor with grab and guard.

He has played a billion games of BB on fumbble. He is extremely protective of his skinks - they always line up way back in his zone. And he cages them up as good as he can immediately.

My CD's have 6 CD's (2 with guard, one with claw). I have five hobgobs. Four have one skill (wrestle, kick, dirty player, sure hands). I have 2 bull centaurs - one is missing this match. The other has block, dodge, and break tackle. I also have one mino. It has stand firm and juggernaut.

This is the first year I have played Chaos Dwarfs. I am at heart an Orc coach and I am finding it tough to adjust to the different team. I have played a lot of face to face games and only one or two on fumbble or the cyanide version.

I get 160K in inducements (for free). We both have 4 re-rolls. We both have 8 ff. He has one extra cheerleader and assistant coach.

Thoughts/suggestions?
Michael

In my experience (mostly in tournaments), CDs vs. Lizzies is always a win for the CDs. The main tactic is to mark the Skinks with Chaos Dwarfs at every opportunity. Your opponent must either fail dodges or blow his re-rolls to get Skinks out of tackle zones. It's as simple as that.

A shame that you have no M-Blow, but Block+Tackle vs. Dodge+Stunty is still quite potent.

I have a similar dilemma on the horizon, although I have Dark Elves versus Lizards, who seem to have 6 ST4 Mighty Blow Block elves (all the break tackle is crazy)

I think it is more in my head though, taking the fight to them is always a decent tactic and as Smeborg says force them to take the dodges at crucial times. luckily my opponent has a rookie Krox, so no excessive danger from him.

hope you won yours CG

Well.. I had quite the game last night. The first block of the game was a serious injury against me on a Chaos Dwarf. Then I rolled double one's on my first turn with a Blitzing minotaur...

Turn three I moved my Bull Centaur in place to blitz the ball. I had to go for it one space and snake eyes again. To add insult to injury my BC stayed KO'd until turn 15...

I marked his Skinks every chance I could and had four out for a short time but three were only KO'd and they all recovered.

I lost the match three to one.

I think the important thing is that his team has almost all block on all of his players. It is his second season with this team and they have a very good mix of skills. He also will place his Skinks next to his own end zone to ensure their are no extra free blitzes.

He is the only player in my league I have never beat. Oh well. There is always the late season.

Thanks everyone for the tips. If Chaos Dwarves are an auto win on Lizards then my strategy must indeed be faulty at best. It is time for my team to kick the threats of shaving beards into high gear. It is obvious my coach is not near cruel enough... ;p

I don't think you should beat yourself up too much. There a no auto wins I'm afraid

One of the caveats in the quote was that it was in tournament play, CD have an advantage for many tournaments as the Lizards do not get so much block and definitely not on the skinks.

A 'tooled up' Lizard team is a problem for any team, no one else is getting 6 reliable Str4 straight off the bat (I am deliberately ignoring Vamps) plus MV8 runners who dodge through tackle zones on a 3+.

cg - Loki is right, there are no auto-wins in BB, especially if you roll strings of 1s and the like.

Out of interest, what inducements did you take? I would have thought a Wizard would have been rather good (sorry I forgot to mention that earlier).

I took Zharg to ensure I had another Dwarf who could pass if needed and I wanted another player with tackle. I brought him in during the second half when I received. He was unable to pick up the ball despite sure hands. Then the lizardmen grabbed it with a few dodges and his sidestep took him into the end zone.

In our league we can argue the call for fouls and special weapons. I rolled a six so Zharg could setup again. Next drive - another fail for his sure hands... uggg. Then his Saurus took him out of the drive.

The other inducement I chose was a merc Bull Centaur with Tackle. I really wanted two extra players to mark his skinks but unfortunately it didn't work.

I feel I played well. But sometimes Nuffle gets us.

Tonight I play a match against the Dwarfs. He has 7 MB to my 1. We both have three guard. He has a deathroller but I have two Bulls and a Mino. I have 5 re-rolls and he has 3. And he gets 210K in inducements. I feel I am quite a bit more skilled of a player than my opponent.

Why do you have 5 rerolls? :?:

3 should be enough, and that's 140k in inducement you're getting/not giving up. in this case, he can get a bribe so his Deathroller will stay on, + Boomer, who is great against low AG teams, and a Babe. Lose the 2 Rerolls, and he's down to only Boomer (or a Babe).

Also, use the speed of your Bulls, crowdsurf with the Mino, and Claw them to shreds. And recieve if you can, hopefully removing enough players so he has to set up the Deathroller after you score on turn 7 or 8 of the first half, and then lose it for the rest of the game.

I truly feel 4-5 re-rolls for low ag teams is best, especially with my play style. I don't have many free skill based re-rolls. Only 1 player has sure hands and a bull w dodge which will be mostly negated by his tackle. I feel I will now be able to save cash for future inducements for key matches. I might double skill a few hobgobs but we will see.

i am expecting my opponent to take a wizard and a bribe this game. this is my first season w CD's. i am a very proficient orc coach but i have been struggling to win consistently with this team.

I am also in the camp of those who believe 3RRs is just right for CDs.

All the best.

The re-roll was my last purchase. Ouch.

I am desperately trying to skill up two Chaos Dwarfs. I was hoping the re-rolls would allow me to get a few more blocks in to do so via casualties or to try to get them to score. These two have not been able to break 2 spp's all season..

Perhaps you are correct though that I have a lot of bloat.

You don't need to have those; the only Agility Rolls you should be making regularly are for picking up the ball, and that is a once-per-drive thing (ideally). You have Block (or Wrestle) on most players, Sure Feet on those most likely to use GFI's, the only ones likely to Dodge should do so only once it's a 2+ roll. Of course there will be situations where your Bull needs to make a Long Pass to the Mino, who is in a Tacklezone and needs to Dodge and GFI twice to score, but that should be a rarity and not worth giving 140k! of inducements for.

Also you have too many players. 13 is should be max, so after this game I'd sack a Hobgoblin, probably the Sure Hands one or the Strip Ball one (or even the Mino; they're fun, but not really worth it unless you roll doubles early).

Way too awesome... haha!

I am definitely going to take your suggestions to heart. In our league my Minotaur (Grizh-Na-Gazh) is leading for most kills. Like many coaches have stated, a minotaur without block is kind of a burden at times (and they are right). When he is good he is really good. But he often hogs the blitzes and this is probably hurting the rest of my team quite a bit.

If I was to cut a hobgoblin I might consider the strip ball guy. The more I play with this team, however, the more I like having the option to field five hobgoblins on a drive. I know they are going to get beat up but the improved movement and agility can help me score if I am losing the attrition war.

As soon as I get those two Chaos Dwarfs another skill I will drop at least one re-roll perhaps two.

With the amount of block on your team, break tackle and dodge on the bull... 2 or max 3 rerolls are enough
