I'll post one after this message, but I'll explain how to show them easily here first.
You can cut and paste this into your document for easy editing:
Code: Select all
-----------------------------
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
Then you can add your players onto it.

It ends up looking like this:
Code: Select all
-----------------------------
. . . .|. X . X . X .|. . . .
. X X .|X . . . . . X|. X X .
. . . .|. . X . X . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
This is a defense I like to use with strong teams.
What do you like?

Anymore I've been using this format on defense (which is very similar to the one neominal posted ... but a little different):
<FONT COLOR="#FFFFFF" face="sans-serif">It ends up looking like this:
Code: Select all
-----------------------------
. . . .|. X . X . X .|. . . .
. X X .|. . . . . . .|. X X .
. . . .|. X . . . X .|. . . .
. . . .|X . . . . . X|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .

Pretty similar, but I like to keep the sideline players 1 square further back, just in case of Fooled Ya (quick snap), plus (assuming lack of sidestep/stand firm) your sideline players are slightly less vunerable to 2k1 Frenzy.
Code: Select all
-----------------------------
. . . .|. X . X . X .|. . . .
. . . .|X . . . . . X|. . . .
. X X .|. X . . . X .|. X X .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
And if I've got a WA, he's usually waaaay back in the defensive sweeper role!
I did once set up a Skaven defence like so:
Code: Select all
-----------------------------
. . . .|. . x x x . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . x . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . x . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . x . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . x . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . x . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . x . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . x . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . x . . .|. . . .
Confused the hell out of my opponent. I think I had to hold out for two turns. The idea was to swarm whichever side he went.

The first one you have under "vs. Elves" is a favourite of mine, it works well against those dodgy gits, especially if you have a couple guys with Tackle in the back. I tend to let dodgy teams score if I still have time, sometime I take the opportunity to pick on important players while they score. It all depends on how many turns are left etc.

I use the first one Vs Elves too, but I try and be original although not so much as that Skaven one DW WOW. I applaud your sense of the dramatic.

Against a one turn scoring gutterrunner and one turn left
Code: Select all
-----------------------------
. . . .|. x . x . x .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. x . x|. x . x . x .|x . x .
Of course the last line is further away then 9 lines, but if you put them there only the irritating oneturner can reach you. then, let him dodge....

Good defense against breakthrough elves
0= Ball carrier
S= Elf
X= Defense
Code: Select all
-----------------------------
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . S . S . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . O . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . S . S . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. X . X . X .|. . . .
. . . .|X . . X . . X|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
Actually I just love playing with this lineup, but anyways

this will leave the elves with only one blitz and at least two dodgerolls.
The most dangerous is letting the elves make a cage like this and I think that neoliminal "vs elves" option three is most suited to prevent that.

)

Just wrote a very long post for this one and deleted the whole thing as I was afraid it was sounding like I was trying to teach your grandmas to suck eggs.
Here's a (slightly) shorter version:
Code: Select all
-----------------------------
. . . .|x . . x . . x|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. x . .|x . . . . . x.| . x .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. x . .|x . . . . . x|. . x .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
Neo's suggestion vs elves works great with dwarves vs elves, although without strong centre players it leaves a centre drive easy for the elves, giving them spare players enough to screen off a passing lane and a clear reciever.
Code: Select all
-----------------------------
. . . .|. . x x x . .|. . . .
. . . .|x . . . . . x|. . . .
. x . .|. . . . . . .|. . x .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|x . . . . . x|. . . .
. x . .|. . . . . . .|. . x .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
I've had a little more success with that one especially if the front 3 are guarding longbeards and the linebackers have stand firm.
Neo's first one:
Code: Select all
-----------------------------
. . . .|. x . x . x .|. . . .
. x x .|x . . . . . x|. x x .
. . . .|. . x . x . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
Is a doozy against starting elves esp with a team like norse or dwarves who start with a lot of block. I actually recommend setting the 2 players furthest back forward one square:
Code: Select all
-----------------------------
. . . .|. x . x . x .|. . . .
. x x .|x . x . x . x|. x x .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
Blocks on the front line will fill the gaps in the row behind unless the linemen are blocked sideways, in which case knockdowns are essential to get the drive running. If the elves are low on block (this is why you use it with Norse) they will be burning rerolls like nobody's business trying to get recievers downfield. We termed this one the Suicide Sadler.
I love this style of set for protecting the hashmarks (usually one of the weakest spots)
Code: Select all
-----------------------------
. . . .|. x . x . x .|. . . .
. . . .|x . . . . . x|. . . .
. x . .|x . . . . . x|. . x .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. x . .|. . . . . . .|. . x .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
but I still fear for the centre run. Take that centre player out on a knockdown and it's easy to screen those sideline players off from your main drive. Anyone know of any way to prevent that?
My current favourite
Code: Select all
-----------------------------
. . . .|L . . L . . L|. . . .
. S . .|. . . . . . .|. . S .
. . G. |L . T . T . L|. G . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
. . . .|. . . . . . .|. . . .
S: Stormvermin
G: Gutter Runners
T: Throwers
L: Linerats
I like this setup for the speed with which I can get GRs and SVs blitzing towards the thrower after a deep kick. The sidelines are advertised as the most vulnerable as a sideline run usually requires a large investment in manpower to get going and tends to compromise field position. This is something I can capitalise on with Skaven speed, both bottling them up on the sideline and charging down the weak side to pressure the thrower. The SVs are best able to take the punishment if they do go sideline and the GRs are back one step to protect them from blitzes.
My current team has a linerat with Foul Appearance on the front line and I will add more if and when I roll more doubles. I also love things like Passblock, Diving Tackle and Shadow on my Gutter Runners which is why I set them for the run down the pitch early.
