Just another Wood Elf Thread

HI all!

Yes, I know, it is a common topic and I've read all the other threads concerning this, but still a few questions remain:

What to do with my Catchers? So far I havent got any (I played two games so far, 3:1 and 3:0 for me), but sooner or later I'm gonna get them.

So far I've read the following suggestions:

a) Get a single one turner, the others should be defensive guys with Block, Pass Block, Dauntless, Tackle and the like, with the one turner being off pitch most of the time to both keep him safe and let the others earn points.

b) Two offensive, two defensive, all else similar to a)

c) Get no one turner at all (unless fate forces me to) and concentrate on ball retrievers instead, going all the way block, dauntless, strip ball, tackle.

Just to complete my team for information purposes:

2 Wardancers, both 0 SPPs
1 Thrower, 3 points by completions
9 Lineelves, one of them with block (2 TDs), another block and dodge (2 TDs, 2 MVPs)

1 RR, 6 FF, Apo

I´d be happy to get help for my catcher "problem".

Regards, Fronko.

BTW: The two games was against Chaos Marauders and Orcs, so I guess, I was lucky to not even suffering from a single serious injury. :)

I would do a oneT, one defensive/offensive, one offensive, one defensive.

Wood Elf catchers give you many ways to go. Here is how I choose skills for mine (in that order):

MA+1: Sprint + Sure feet (of course)

AG+1: Block, Pass Block, Leap

ST+1: Block, Side Step, Tackle

Normal skill choice: Block, Side Step (a great skill both on offence and defence), Pass Block, and Leap/Tackle

Double skill choice: Nerves of Steel, Jump Up, Dauntless (the reason I don't choose dauntless any sooner is that I don't block big guys with my catchers that often. Mostly my wardancers are able to get to the ball carrier).

I don't worry about defensive or offensive catchers as it normally adds up. The above can also be used on both anyway.

Well, thanx first of all, but could you be a little more specific on that offensive/defensive guy? Or is it just a blend of all the skills mentioned?

Just another idea popped up in my mind:

Why not make two lineelves passblock/catch? Was about the same effect as catchers with pass block, and I could use them for more offensive/blitzerlike/just-anything-else purposes?

Or does this sacrifice too much of the "stopping power" (sounds strange in lineelves, doesnt it?) my linos should exert?

To my mind cani got it about right

+MA -> 1 turner, (sprint & sure feet)
+AG -> interceptor (Pass Block) or ball getter (leap, sure hands)
+ST -> blitzer/leaper (block, strip ball, leap)

Generally I'd go Block, Sidestep then Shadowing or Pass Block.

Doubles are either Nerves of Steel or Dauntless, depending on what they have already.

Ok, latest update:

My roster looks like this:

Wardancer
Wardancer
Thrower Sure Hands
Lineman Block, Dodge
Lineman Kick
Lineman Sidestep
6x Linemen No skills, some will increase on TD/MVP though

7x FF
1x RR

Treasury 90k

I´m planning on getting a RR next, after that I´m not sure whether to take my first catcher or a treeman rookie.

What do you suggest, and if its the treeman, how should I use him? He´ll be on the line, won´t he?

Thanks, Fronko.

I would get a catcher before a treeman. The catchers can be invaluable because of their MA and Dodge. The Treeman is a project because he only plays half a game half the time, and can only really get SPP from casualties and the off MVP (I’m sure everyone has a story about an INT, TD or CMP), so he takes forever to develop. He is nice if you are in a bash heavy league, as it usually takes 3-4 linemen to bring him down, and that makes 3-4 linemen not hitting your 7av elves.
