Graphic problem 3

Post by MickeX »

Image

It's Red teams last turn for the match, but the situation seems hopeless. How should they go about in their desperate attempt to score?

- Red Thrower (holding the ball) has Accurate.
- Red Black Orc Blocker has Block and Break Tackle
- No other players have gained any skills.
- Red Team has one RR left.
- There are no other players on the pitch.

Micke

Mike, could you provide a key for those of us who don't use these icons very often? I'm having trouble telling which is a blitzer, BO, or lineman.

Here's what I would do - i think im reading those guys right. Block the lineman below and left of your thrower with the nearby blitzer for a 1 die. If you get a pow sweet, push pow works too, push back ok, but both down doesnt work. Push him down-right. DOnt follow up. If hes still up, blitz him with your other blitzer for a 1 die to get him ottta the way (push hiim right) Now dogde with your BT BO to the end zone, should be 3+, 2+, GFI. Now dodge down left with your thrower (should be 4+), and either dodge again at 3+ and get close or throw from there to your black orc. It's risky as hell but that's what makes the game interesting.

Just for interest, let me know if you pull it off whether or not you follow this plan.

The way to go:

Blitzer N5->M6 - no rolls
Blitzer K6 blocks lineorc J7 - Follow-up needed to get blitzer to J7
If this succeeds, all that is needed is that the Thrower blitzes the blitzer at K8 (pushback required to J9) and proceeds to dodge to L9 and waltz in for a TD.

Overall chance of success: 148/243

Which means that the situation is hardly desperate at all - the chance of success about 61%!!!

N5 Blitzes L6 from the corner. Pushes him to K7 (the thrower) and then the thrower to K8 and the player in K8 to J9.

Then the thrower dodges out and runs in.

2 dice rolls 1/3 chance of failure on each.

D'oh...
I noticed that too but didn't manage to post that one before you did, Ian.

And the odds are better than what you propose - the blitz can be a standoff, which gives an additional 2/324 chance of scoring a TD should the thrower succeed in three dodges, resulting in an overall chance of success of about 242/324. This translates to nearly a 75% chance...

ianwilliams, i don't agree with you because for me you have to push the minimum of players as you can so if you blitz L6 at corner you have to push him at L7 and the L7 players to another one...

Ian nailed it. I didn't even consider a blitz with chain pushing. Nice one.

yes it's a nice one but i always thought that when you do "a pushing chain", you have to do the short one? Is it right or not? I check the LRB and it's seems that there is nothing write about it.

So how works "the pushing chain"?

Ian already explained how the chain works. read through his post for the explanation.

Just to clarify the initial blitz moves to M5 - then blitzes L6. As all 3 squares are occupied I can choose to move into K7 (the thrower). Now K7 is treated as if being pushed from L6 so all his squares are full and he can choose K8. K8 then goes to J9.

As for the standoff - I thought the Line orc(?) didn't have block.

All secondary pushes are treated exactly the same as a primary push. There is no rule saying you must use the shortest chain possible.

I think they are blitzers. As there are five of the orc player with different face (red eyes visible) on the blue team they can't be blitzers. The one with the black face gotta be a BOB, so the ones with helmet with no visible eyes are blitzers.

The shortest chain thing might come from FUMBBL experience - only straight line pushing in that because the tool can't cope with anything more complicated yet.

Yup! Problem solved by Ian, unless anyone's got something very imaginative coming!

Mestari: Even if you don't use the chain-push-method, there's a slightly better alternative. GFI to I6 with the free Blitzer, and make a 2D block to I8 with the Black Orc (push to I9). Then block and dodge with the Thrower.

Sorry about the unexplained graphics, Mestari is right about the positions.

Micke
