I will play with my Skaven (TR172, TRR3, FF12) the semi-finals against a Lizardmen team (TR148, TRR3, FF11) and I'm making up my mind of how to perform best:

He has:
1x Saurus with Block
5x normal Sauri
1x MA9 Skink with Sprint(!)
1x MA9 Skink
3x MA8 Skinks with Sure Feet
1x Skink with Kick
1x normal Skink

I have:
2x Gutter Runner with AG5, Leap, Block (Yeah!)
1x normal Gutter Runner
2x Storm Vermin (one with Tackle, the other with Strip Ball)
1x Thrower with Accurate
2x skilled Linerats (one with Kick, the other with Leader)
6x unskilled Linerats
1x unskilled Rat Ogre

I know he will build up a solid wall of Sauri and try mashing everything in his path to pulp while a group of Skinks advance and score when in MA/sprint distance.

Should I set up a deep defence, trying to get away from the LOS, or do an early shock-tactic by using Kick and infiltrating his lines with a strip ball storm vermin and AG5 gutter runner and trying to distrup his moves early before he can set up his swarm? Should I kick short and try to nail his ballhandler/get the ball with my AG5 GR or kick long and make a shock move (danger of being outrun due to overscretching of my formation). Another issue is solid LOS (=3 skaven next to each other) or spread them?

I'm thinking of leaving the Rat Ogre on the bench while I'm the offensive team. I have a Leader RR but against 6x MA6 ST4 Sauri he could be swarmed leaving me with constant turnovers.

On defence I want to leave the RO as a backfield defense blitzing any Skink getting past, but I'm afraid he can outmove my RO with his MA8-9 Skinks.

So summing up, both teams have Kick, his Sauri are mostly without Block and he has 5 fast Skinks, whereas I have two Ball removing Storm vermin and two super Gutter Runner but no Block on my team except the two Storm Vermins. Overall I have two more players than him.

Any idead or help, any good defensive formation against this annoying team? I thought of 3-4-3-2?

BTW, I'm not a rookie (this team has done 6 wins and 1 loss so far) but I want to get everything out of my team and you'll never stop learning, do you?

I think u have it, other than 3-4-3-2 is 12 guys. Your tackle storm vermin should be a sprinter hunter on defense, him and one of the blodgy gr's. Try to avoid the sauri as much as possible and concentrate on the skinks. I agree to keeping the RO off the field on offense.

i think he will have 4 suri on the line with 2 in the wide set back a little that way he forces you to try and attack the sides of his formation and then curve in behind his line where he can crush you, now as stated the key is he can only field 5 skinks when doing this so he will probably only use the full suri on def on off he may take a suri or 2 off to get extra skinks on, the takcle svermin must be held back on def to hunt down skinks as must the RO that way you can hold back incursions, if he brings more than 1 skink in behind your lines on your turn try blitz the RO and get 2 dice min on a skink, push or knock over where it suits you then park the tackle vermin right by any oithers (make sure he stands next to skink closest to your tz, remember at the end of your turn you want a tacklezone between all skinks and a clear run force them to make the dodges, and you want to leave expendable linemen to hold up the suri so they cant come and free the skinks,

As with any game against liz its avoid the suri while standing in their way, and get the skinks, if you can put them in the KO,BH,SI and RIP then you will win by default as Suri cant handle the ball in any real sense. fouling is probably a waste of time except when its to remove a skink who will be able to score the next turn.

keep tackle vermin an assist and the RO back on def as if he breaks through he will push deep, use expendable linemen to confront the suri.

on off do not use the RO as it is too easy for a WA to go charging off and end up surrounded which will kill you.

May be a gamble but this is what i would do, Tie up the saurus with Linemen, Sure your AV 7 may not hold up all the time, but hopefully it'll give you enough time to get at the skinks, before they can get to a scoring position.

Likewise on attack, tie up saurus with the same tactic so they cant defend the skinks, then concentrate on blocking skinks with Storm vermin and any players with block or tackle, even if this is where you get a blitz in, Skinks are fragile, if you can get a few of the pitch then they'll lost all their ball carrying ability

With the rat ogre he has no guard, and no S5. So as long as you end up with a rat either side of him you'll be fine.

The RO is extremely useful because of prehensile tail. Use him to tie down any loose skinks while the Tackle SV blitzes all the time.

I'd always kick deep and hope he messes up the pickup so your fast team can get between the ball and the saurus.

No I would go with the already stated tie up Suarus with you lineman and take out the Skinks.

Leave Rat Ogre off on offence definatley.

I won 3:0 ! I'm in the finals now.

I tied up his Sauri with my unskilled Linerats, 1 got SI, one BH and 3 KO.

He dropped the idea of tying up my Rat Ogre with his Sauri after he SIed the very first Sauri foolish enough to enter his TZ.

The tackling-Storm vermin hunted down some Skinks, most of the would have gotten into scoring position in the next turn.

The strip ball Storm vermin knocked once the ball free in the opponents half

The game winners had been the two AG, Leap, block Gutter Runners, stopping one of his skinks 1 square before my EZ and pulling the EZ to EZ trick, scoring in one turn (8th of second half!)
