Orcs vs Lizardmen

Post by MixX »

Hi guys...

I played the first game of the season with my orcs yesterday, against skaven. Won 2-0, and thrashed him 5-1 in casualties. Of course, the one casualty was a dead Blitzer (dammit!) but in return, I niggled 2 of his rats and killed one (that'll teach him to mess with a Black Orc!).

I received +3 to winnings, and of course rolled the mandatory "1", preventing me from buying a lineman to replace the dead Blitzer.

Anyway, my gameplan worked quite well, but then Skaven aren't the hardest of opponents (IMO). Tomorrow, I'm playing a Lizardman team though. It has not received any skills or extra players yet, so for all purposes it's a rookie team. It has, according to rumour, 6 Saurii and 5 skinks.

Okay, here's the question:

How do I get rid of those damn Saurii?? 6 strength 4 players are rather nasty, if you ask me! Of course, I have 4 st. 4 players (none of use have any Big Guys, thank Nuffle!) but that's sort of 2 short!

My plan to win is: kill the skinks! so that he can't score, but that won't really help me if the Saurii maul the rest of my team into oblivion!

I have:

4 BOB's
3 Blitzers
2 Lino's
1 Thrower

please help! I need to beat this S.O.A.B., since I want to be the first rookie team to win the league in their first season.. Ok, ok, but I want to win!

That is a tough one. I find the Lizardmen teams start very well, but because Skinks can't get General skills, stall a little after they can affor to get their Krox, etc.

On the plus side, I would worry a lot more about the Skinks then the Saurii. They can't dodge, don't have block and you have armour 9 everywhere. With an luck, the damage they can do to you will be relatively contained, let the lineorcs and black orcs take that part of this teams speed away from them.

The Skinks on the other hand will run around you and the lack of tackle is almost guarenteed to get frustrating. You can focus on taking them out, as you say, but there are lots of them and all dodge-stunty.

Bascially you have 3 Blitzers and a Thrower to fight the 5 Skinks for the ball. Only advice there is:
-watch their speed so they don't get past you, (maybe using the Thrower and a Blitz as safety on D)

-make sure to get some pressure on the ball in their own zone, they likely won't have SH as that is a Dbls choice and this is a new team. Without many rerolls, even if he is making his pickup rolls having the pressure will force him to commit more guys to the ball for a failed pickup. If you keep your guys out of range of the ball, then he can use 1 Skink to work the ball and send all 4 other Skinks deep and overwhelm you D
(Last 2 blitzers as forecheckers)

Good Luck!

I won my last league vs. a lizzie team, and had but one game plan...

blitz a skink...

mind you, I was using dwarfs, and that made it even easier. (aside from getting intp position to block them) But basically, every turn I used my blitz to hit a skink. Use your blitzer to hunt them, because once you cut the number of the skinks down, his options become extremely limited, and therefore easier to defend against. Put your BoBs and line orcs on the sauri, and just hope for a stalemate on the LoS.

Take the ball if you win the toss, and go skink hunting while protecting the ball carrier. If he gets the ball, he is gonna score, but make sure to take out as many skinks as you can. Remember, you are hitting the skinks early so you can win the game in the end, so don't worry if he takes a early lead.

Finally, you may need to send all three blitzers into his back field, as the skinks might hide back there until the sauri clear the way.

Realize, knocking five skinks out during an entire game is not the hardest thing to do. Just keep at it, and it should work out in the end.

Not at all to flame you- especially on your 1st post, but this sort of apples and oranges. If I had to pick any team to play Lizardmen in a one-off game it would be dwarves. As soon as tackle is in the game that AG3 start to really show itself.

I think Mr. Buckets plan does hold water. Dwarf Blitzers don't have tackle. And Bobs and Linorcs can hold the line just as well as Long beards, substituting tackle for being able to go 1 on 1 with a saurus.

Now I am the last one to being giving advice for an orc team, but I do know lizards, and "Blitz a skink" is the most devestating method used against them.

Thanks everyone! I'll think of you while having a Skink Sandwich to celebrate my victory (hopefully! As long as I can stop myself from saying "anything but a skull" too many times, I should be fine!)

Look, I am very well aware that Dwarfs are a good match up against the lizzies. That said, I still say that hunting down the skinks with his blitzers is his best bet, especially when there is just five of them. I had seven to deal with, and I was able to, but I did also have all that tackle. His blitzers still have a good chance to knock one down with their block and 2 dice. Plus, they are a lot faster, which will help to catch them. (my MV4 LBs had a hell of a time)

My point is this: coaches who concentrate on winning the LoS against Lizzies are in for a long game. I am just saying that IMHO, skinks should be a coaches target, not winning the LoS, hope for a stalemate at best. Once the number of skinks are reduced, forcing turnovers and scoring become a lot easier. (obviously)

Absolutely agreed with the idea, but IF we were talking Dwarves, I would use whatever TrollSlayers available and a mix of Blitzers and LongBeards for the LoS. The reason for me is not to try and win the LoS pre say, but to use at least 2 LongBeards in the Wide Zones to keep his Skinks from blowing past you wide, and try and funnel them through the middle- where there are more LongBeards and tackle zones.

Blitzes should absolutely be on the Skinks with either team, but I like to play the 'Trap' on defense and take away that team speed through the neutral zone.
