Hi,
what would you suggest for an Ogre in an Orc team?
(First skill)

Block - always use full
Pile on - da Killa
Pro - need those Rerolls

Thanx

What's he for?
If you want him to thrwo little ones, get pro,...if you want to go safe, take block,
I wouldn't go Piling On, i don't think he is very good for that with his low movement...but i know others like it...

(Block would be my choice)

I prevaricated between Piling On and Block for a while, decided to go with Block and haven't looked back since... So incredibly useful. And with the ogre having Mighty Blow and ST5 the SPP's will come in sooner rather than later (so no need to take PO to get him a second skill, as with Black Orks).

I think having a big guarding block player who tosses the occasional goblin is much better than someone who will semiguaranteed break armor, then probably get a KO at best and get fouled out. (On an ork team atleast).

Pro is kinda useful, but I reckon having someone (including the ogre himself!) have leader is a lot better. And with block the need for rerolls becomes a lot less. So I vote Block.

I think wild animals benefit much more from Pilling On than other Big Guys. Chances are too big that he misses a round laying prone. If you want to give your Ogre pilling on, them make sure you have Dirty Player before your Ogre gets to 6 SPP.
If you want to go the safest route take Block or Pro. As I throw Gobos a lot I would take pro.

That word you keep using - I do not think it means what you think it means...

Block and pro is normal devleopment for Ogres, but PO is a great skill to get the 4th and 5th ogres who skill up. Block, Tackle, PO is the one who takes care of the Elves, and if you can get him to 4 skills, Break Tackle makes him a real beast.

I don't rate Guard very highly on Ogre teams, simply becasue they have the strength to muscle anyone anywere they want anyway.

Have any of you tried getting sure hands and making an ogre running back? It's a pretty good strategy against 3 strength teams, though he's a little slower than the typical 2 AG runner, the Bull Centaur.

Piling on makes him an unreliable CAS machine while Block makes him a reliable player spreading less fear. Depends on where you want to go with your Black Orcs, If they all go piling on, then i'd keep the Ogre with block first. Or vice versa ...

prevaricate is to speak or act evaisively or misleading. i think you may have meant dliberate though.

Ogre on an Orc team:

Block, Pro, Tackle, Guard, Break Tackle, Strip Ball

Ogre on a Halfling Team:

Block, Pro, Tackle, Break Tackle, Guard, Strip Ball

Ogre on an Ogre team:

Block, Pro, Tackle, Break Tackle, Strip Ball, Guard

would be my choice of skills in order.

You've got tackle quite high up the list there. I think I'd want Guard earlier (i.e. 3rd) because you are still giving assists if you fail the Bonehead roll.

I like Tackle on Ogres because they are usually pretty good at hurting Elves if they can knock them down. Tackle means that on 2 dice the Ogre had a 55% chance of knocking them down if they have the Blodge combo. Ogres KO or worse AV 7 40% of the time with a Knock Down.

That's why I like Tackle so much. I also find that coaches with Elves, 'Zons, and Stunties want to dodge away from my Ogre. I like having the skill that gives me one more chance to keep them near me and from running all over the pitch.

Guard is great ... I cannot argue that at all ... I just like my Ogres for offense more than for defense.

I agree that Guard is probably better than tackle on an Orc team, but on an Ogre team it could be the second skill. On the Ogre team, the ogres aren't just the general smashers, they're the people who go after the ballcarrier, and you generally need takle to take the BC down on 1/2 the teams in any given league. Ogre teams will probably want some roleplayer ogres, with development like;

3 with Block, Pro, Tackle
2 with Block, Tackle, Break Tackle
1 with Sure Hands, Block, Kick

I usually go Block, PO, Pro and after that it depends on how my team looks.

Skill 1 - Block
Skill 2 - Pilling On (especially if you play it according to LRB rules)
Skill 3 - Tackle
Skill 4 - Pro or Multiple Block

Doubles - Leader (if don't have already)
