Winning with Humans vs Amazons

HI there!

I might pick up Humans in our next season, and I know there will be an Amazon team. Problem is, I've been playing with a new Human team against a new Amazon team for a couple of games, and I can't get good results.

I know that the easy answer is to get Tackle! I'll get to that! But now, we're only at about 140 TR (4 games played). He now has 9 players out of 14 having Blodge.

My roster consists of a very good passer (+1 AG, Accurate);
7 linemen (2 w/Block, 1 w/Piling On, 1 w/+1 ST);
4 Blitzers (1 w/Mighty Blow, 1 w/Leader);
1 Ogre
3 Re-rolls

All of my 4 Blitzers are closing in on skill increase (even those who already have one). I'm going to go Guard twice and Tackle twice, unless I roll doubles.

So, what I really need is Tactics before I get some tacklers on the team.

Thanks!
Fred

No catchers? No wonder you are having trouble.

Cathcers, because they are so fast, allow you lots of options against 'zons.

I'd be tempted try to take out those players that don't have block 1st. Use your MB & Tackle player to do this.

Then try to ensure that your players with tackle are man marking 'zons - and not in positions where they will just get bashed around. Also be setting that Ogre up for 3 dice blocks (not as good as tackle, but the MB will hurt if you put them down).

What advantages does the human roster have over the Amazon? The first that springs to mind is that their catchers have MV 8, whereas the 'zons are pretty slow. The higher AV is cancelled out by them all having at least Dodge, possibly blodge.

Waitagodamnminute! You don't have any catchers! :o If I were playing 'zons with my humans, I would just use loads of catchers. Maybe you need to invest in at least 2 of the little buggers. I love 'em! :D

But otherwise, consider taking Tackle as your 1st skill on the Ogre, even over Block. Risky, but.....

I would say that with your roster you are pretty screwed as you don´t have either catchers or tackle.

OK... As I said: I will get Tackle, probably 2 guys after next game...

Again, this is only an unofficial team, not my league team, and there won't be only Amazons in the league! I must develop for all of them, not only the 'Zons! :P But this team is now saving to buy 2 catchers at once (70K in the bank already...)

If I play humans, I'll start with 2 Blitzers and 2 catchers instead of 4 Blitzers...

As for the Ogre, although Tackle is surely on the list, I was planning more to get Piling On as his first skill... That'll hurt anybody!

Thanks for the advices! Keep'em coming if you have more!

Thats why you only give 2 blitzers tackle as first skill while the 2 others get something else.
And don´t give the ogre tackle as first skill or second, its not that good on an ogre.

A human team needs a reliable Ogre. Dont go the pilling on route. Take block. Sadly I have no clue how to beat a amazon team with out tackle or faster players.

Agreed. Against anyone except 'zons. :wink:

I've got a few catchers on my human team and I think they're pretty useless. Most of the time I score with my blitzer with Blodge and Stand Firm.

I remember back in 3e I had a human catcher with Block, Nerves of Steel, Diving Tackle and Dauntless! :o Those were the days. *sigh* I once took out Morg with the ol' DT thing too!! :lol: How I laughed! :lol: :lol:

Catchers don't have to catch to be very useful.

This sort of feeds to the 'what is a QB' discussion in the other thread, but in NFL football to have a good running game you have make the opponent face the throwing option. Same thing in Bloodbowl- send the catchers into open areas of pitch and force the opponent to cover them. A MV 8 player with Dodge and Catch damn near forces them to use double coverage, having a couple of catchers away from the crowd either creates a constant option or removes 3-4 players away from ball pressure.

If the zons have few players, there's an obvious one: during the first half, do as many blocks as possible with your Block players against his without block. Sometimes you can do the Ogre block last, and choose a Both Down result even if that's a TO... :D (I just love to do that with zombies!)

Check out the first post, 9 of 14 players have the block skill (so 9 blodgers).

Well... I got beaten up pretty bad ! Only 6 SPP's in the whole game (1 comp and the MVP :( ). So my progression is slowly going !

I do have 100 K in the treasury though, and if I can manage to get 40 K in the next game, I'll buy 2 catchers at once. That will spice up the game a bit...

THanks for all the advices. If I do take humans in the next season, I'll start with :
1 Ogre
2 Catchers
2 Blitzers
1 Thrower
5 linemen
3 RR
9 FF

Then I can pretty much play any style of BB... Buying 2 blitzers first, then RR's.
