Help getting a Chaos team up and running...

I really want to get a Chaos team up and running in PBeMBBL. But I am having a hell of a job keeping them alive! :(

Played 2 games now, and had to retire the team after both. Game 1 got 2 SI (one -1 MV, one niggle). Game 2 got 1 dead, one SI (niggle). Not enough money to buy back even one Beastman in winnings, so the team had to be restarted. Both these games were against equal TR (ish) Dwarves. I won the first 2-1, lost the second 1-2. It's not as if I as getting thrashed.

Just started a 3rd game against Soren's Dark Elves. Turn 6 of the 1st half and I have one dead Chaos Warrior, one SI (-1 MV) and one BH. :( So this team is going to have to restart as well.

What am I doing wrong? I know the beasts are only AV 8, but I am not using them recklessly. I'm not a bad player either - my Human team in PBeMBBL is 3 for 3. :)

I have used the same team every time:

1 Chaos Warrior
10 Beastmen
3 re-rolls
FF 9

Any tips?

Update: we're now in turn 7 of the first half. A beastman has now died. From failing a 3+ dodge roll, with a re-roll. :(

No idea why you are losing so many... I didn't have that experience running a Chaos team in the LPL but then I tend not to follow up all that often when I block. It results in less casualties but probably also gives your opponent freedom to move how they want. Consequently you lose less players but lose more matches.

I just retired my Chaos team in our local league. In 11 games I suffered about 3 deaths, 3 or 4 NI a few miss next games and lots of BH's (apothecaried cas are not counted). I got my ass kicked by almost every team in the league (especially in casualties). Even against WE I suffered more harm than I could cause.
This in combination with the tweaked PO and WA (I had a Minotaur with PO) made me decide to drop the team and I think I'll revive my Sylvania Redfangs again.

I think you should try to pick on a not-too-aggressive team; elves or so, for your first 1/2/3 matches, and try to keep players alive and get experience. Gaining a few Block skills should get your team going (though I only have 1 Block CW, 1 Block Mino and 3 Block Beastmen after 11 games, so it won't go fast). Dwarfs are especially nasty to play against with a rooky chaos team as Dwarf teams have block on every player.

My advice: Don't do it, but if you really want it, try to pick on some easy opponents first!

You've been unlucky - that's for sure. But also Chaos actually aren't very good at the start. A beastman is no better than a human lineman at absorbing punishment and the lack of skills tend to mean most bashy teams can push you around.

So don't try to really get in people's faces - stand off a bit more and make them come to you.

To be able to win early as chaos you need 3RR and FF9. Have your CW be your main ballcarrier. AG3 aint bad. Anyone is a baller and you always have a ST4 blitz. For any newbie team it is tough to beat down a ST4 ballcarrier early on. If you play cage well you will score and can perhaps do the 2-1 trick if injuries goes your way.

My present chaos team has played 5 games and started off losing 3 games in a row (two because of endzone going for it that failed) and then won the rest decisively once I had block on the ballhogging CW.

Chaos is perhaps the worst starting team (gobbos and runts excluded) due to the lack of skill but don't despair - w/ some nice mutations the tides of darkness will turn your way.

Made me smile the coincidence of "use CW as ballcarrier" and "endzone going for it failed" ...
Might there be link, like the fact the CW's got only 5 MA ? :)

As I've coached Chaos for a few years now I've learn't that the opening 6-10 games you will possibly loose unless your opponent has an equally bad game. The lack of any skills can kill the team which is why you need to spread them evenly over everyone.

I'm on about game 7-8 now of a new Chaos team, I think I've won 2 games, lost the rest (but only ever by 1 TD). Skills wise I have:

Chaos Warrior: Block
Beastmen: Kick
Beastmen: Sure Hands
Beastmen: Block (2 or 3 of these)
Beastmen: Dirty Player
Beastmen: Claw
Beastmen: Claw

Thus far. A few guys are approaching their 2nd skill so I can start to develop a few more down a specific route. But with Sure Hands now and Kick I can control the ball a lot better. I got both mutations last game and may give one claw up for big hand then give the guy sure hands as his 2nd skill. But the temptation to take claw is so strong.

I have 3 RR's, FF8 (lost 1 point). 10 Beastmen, 2 Chaos Warriors, 1 Ogre and an Apoth. Saving for my last 2 Chaos Warriors at the moment. My TR is around 145(ish) I think.

You just have to be patient with them. They will eventually grow into a strong team but since PO has been neutered they won't be doing as much damage as they used to.
