Version 5.0
http://witwat.net/luke/javabbowl/
Version 5.0 is out and the GFI bug has been fixed. The compiled Mac OS X application, the .jar (classes extracted and recomplied in FreeBSD) and even copies of the plain old .jar file are available for download as either a patch or full versions. Enjoy.

Linux ball display problem fix.
Thanks to Nicholas Setton for discovering this one.
Turns out the whole problem with the ball not displaying on linux is an image file name case problem.
To get the ball displaying on a linux / unix system go into the pics directory and rename these 2 files.
"holdBall3.gif" ----------> "holdball3.gif"
"selBall3.gif" ----------> "selball3.gif"
That's it!
I've updated the "Bbowl5_0.zip" file on the web to contain the renamed file, but it should be much quicker for you to just rename the file rather than redownload.
P.S. Don't worry MrBadMojo, this shouldn't affect your Mac bundles.

There is a new 5.1 patch on the same download page as the original game download.
Main:
http://www.geocities.com/javabbowl/
Mirror:
http://javabbowl.no-ip.org/
The 5.1 patch adds PASS BLOCK! Also added a "Show Weather on Pitch" option.
Download the "patch5_1.zip". Unzip the contents to the original install directory. It will overwrite the "bbowl.jar", "readme.txt" files.

Sweeeeet. The recompiled OS X app and re-Jarred BSD .jar will be up in a few at the usual http://witwat.net/luke/javabbowl.SkiJunkie wrote:The 5.1 patch adds PASS BLOCK!
{edit}The new pitches for the various weather states do not include the grid. I heard a few people asking because they like to count out spaces and what not. I do too.
So, I put alternate pitches on the same page above, with a simple dot in each corner to mark off the squares. It's pretty unobtrusive, but you can still count, and that's what it's all about {/edit}

I hear you on the handicap table. But, after looking at it I realized it would taken me more time to get 3 of the more useless results working than to get pass block working. Plus, I saw in a post earlier that a new handicap table would appear in the next bbmag.Ski we really need to get as much of the handicap table implemented, its a big thing we are missing out for fumbbl
also leap requires you to move one square before hand rather than leaping right away like you can
As for leap...huh? I don't have any problems leaping on the first move. I tried both of these ways:
select player
select leap
select move
select leap square
and
select player
select move
select leap
select leap square.
Both worked. What do I need to do to make it not work?

5.1b is out to fix a problem with PASS BLOCK.
Cool. What compression factor are you using on your jpg file? I noticed all your files are about 50k while mine are 90k, and I see no real visual difference.The new pitches for the various weather states do not include the grid. 5.1b is on http://witwat.net/luke/javabbowl as well.
The quality setting's cranked down to 30% with a little bit of blur to cover up the jpeg artifacts. A little Photoshop is a dangerous thing...SkiJunkie wrote:Cool. Hmm...i use paint shop pro and it has a compression factor setting for jpegs. 0-100%. I guess 70 would be the same as the setting you use in photo shop.

Actually, 30 would be the same. It may or may not do as good of a job of it, though and your jpegs might end up looking like arse.SkiJunkie wrote:Hmm...i use paint shop pro and it has a compression factor setting for jpegs. 0-100%. I guess 70 would be the same as the setting you use in photo shop.

Mac JRE upgrade
Apple just released JRE 1.4.1 (finally) for Mac OS 10.2.x. So far, I haven't had a single one of the stability issues that plague me at home when running JBB on 10.2.
It's not available on 10.1.5, but 10.1.5 was always rock solid with JBB, and what else do you need?
And last, but by no means least, if you really don't care, then bite me.

There is a new 5.2 patch on the same download page as the original game download.
Main:
http://www.geocities.com/javabbowl/
Mirror:
http://javabbowl.no-ip.org/
The 5.2 patch adds DIVING CATCH! Also some bug fixes.
Download the "patch5_2.zip". Unzip the contents to the original install directory. It will overwrite the "bbowl.jar", "readme.txt" files.
