Help with Vampires on Cyanide

Greetings,
I'm using a Vampire team in solo mode to get some practice in since they'll be one of the teams I'll be playing in an upcoming tabletop league. I don't seem to be able to bite a thrall every time. Is there a special control you need to do this or is it a bug? It does work some of the time while other times I can't select them or do anything else until the clock runs out. Any help would be appreciated.
