Two's company
I play BB vs a mate, but there are only 2 of us. Can anyone think any feasible league/trophy arrangements that work well in this case (we have a couple of teams each)? We're currently doing an 8 game random league where the teams are randomly picked each time. This is good because we get to play with a variety of teams, but it loses something when you are not playing for SPP.
Cheers

Why no SPPs? We just used to run house teams. Chuck them all in a pot, pick one each at random, play the game. Next game leave out any teams that have played that round until the pot is empty. We ran a couple of seasons like that, and it's got the added bonus that others could play irregularly or even as one-off guests. We tracked SPPs, ran tables of the teams etc. Hit the link in my sig. and have a look in the Archive section.

Depending on how much you play, why not have 8 teams each and play a series of divisions of 4 teams - 2 teams from each player. Each of your teams will play your oppo once in each division and then have 2 random inter league draws whereby your teams play your oppo. This will give you 4 matches per team.
Then you can have the play offs - either the top 2 from each division or the best 4 rated from each player. The last 8 is a knock out till the final. Here keep you and your opp teams in a separate pot so that your teams are kept apart.
Of course it is much better if both players are evenly matched so that you get both get a similar number of teams through. However, at some stage, you will find that 2 teams from the same coach are drawn together - in this case, the coach owning the teams picks which to play and you play as normal. Depending on how you play, you may need to bring is some fouling rules - however, in my experience this shouldn't be too much of an issue.
The advantages of this system are several:-
You play with and against a lot of different teams.
You develop your own teams too (unlike DW's suggestion which has lots of merit but does result in a hotch potch development).
Both Coaches should have an interest in the league right up until at least the semis - of course if one coach is better than the other this may not happen (however, the better coach could play a gobbo team and a fling team to "allow" the other coach to have an advantage.
If you can only play once a week, this format will take 6 to 9 months - however, interest shouldn't wain.
Enjoy!
