BB Oldtimer Needs help!

Post by Bleaksville_Dodgers »

Hi Sportsfans,

Im aware this topic has been discussed several times before, but ill continue. I've recently got back into painting my mini's after a layoff of about 10 or 12 years. This is when i stubled upon my extremely badly painted Dark Elf team which a couple of the lads have retired from and went subsequently AWOL, i've also discovered acetone :) . So with the Dark Boyz gleaming like new i thought what the heck and looked out my old 2nd Ed BB ( with Astrogranite pitch if my version is correct pics of this can be supplied as proof if need be ) with star player cards books the lot, including all still intact templates bar one the dreaded range ruler. Now ive read several posts which people have divulged the sizes needed to make one with relation to squares, so can i ask would someone be kind enough to PM me with the measurements what i need is ( in mm ) the width - all measurments from start of ruler to first section of - quick pass - short pass - long pass - long bomb ( not the actual sizes of these sections just from the very start of rule to the relevant sections end, this would help me no end cheers).

My second request is really to any scottish gamers or people in the know that maybe know of any groups/leagues/tournaments in scotland that may be possible for me to pop along to i have wheels so travelling not too far is an option i dont mind too much ( sometimes ).

Third request is ive read on the posts on this site that i can download for free the new rulebook, im guessing as is the nature of GW things have changed alot in 12yrs plus ( im thinking ive been out longer as my Dark Elfs are dated 1988 ) so can anyone confirm this free rules download and advise me on my star player cards and book are the obsolete as well? and any other info that might get me up to speed would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Guys

Mark
PS sorry for the extremely long post - and can anyone enter these world cups and events im reading about on this site?? and i do realise i had more than 3 requests :)

There are several great tournaments in the general area where you are (I think) ... more knowledgable folks that I should be able to direct you.

Yes they are free and they have changed a lot since you last saw them. Your stuff is pretty much out of date.
Current rulebook:

There is also a new rulebook being worked on for June 2006 release (but its still in the testing and editing phase):

Yes ... anyone can play. If you cannot find players in your area ... there are a lot of online Blood Bowl leagues that you could use to brush up on the rules before going to a tournament.

Hi Dave

There are a few of us in scotland. Myself, ithilkir, Ewan, and King_hrolf.

Tournament wise, there isn't much. 1 in Aberdeen(Ith?) in september, but not much else. As for the rest of the tournaments, you can join any tournament that you can get to.

Where about in scotland are you? I'm in Borders myself, not far from Tor'nobyl

Thanks Hoomin,

Im on the west coast Ayrshire a little town called stevenston, im pi**ed off there are no BB to be had at all i would consider myself a total newb, so i was hoping there would be a few pros to maybe learn from in the area but oh well... Do you have some spare time to maybe help me get up to speed and maybe even help me get on the online game to try learn teh new rules etc etc, advice needed really, especially about teams, also is there anywhere i can view pics of your ( you guys ) teams to inspire my new paint jobs and even conversions etc.

Cheers Mate
PS Any help is a great help - im dying to play arghh!!!!

Hey mark
Ok, regarding painting etc. There are a few places:
A thread here where guys show off , and give tips:
viewforum.php?f=23
And a few guys web sites:
Narkotic's www.bloodbowl.org
Traveller's www.blood-bowl-miniatures.de
Mine www.1-reroll-1.net
Galak's http://www.midgardbb.com
As for the online version, i assume you are talking about http://fumbbl.com ?? If you are, the jury is still divided on this one. The client is good, but a few of us have a problem with some of the "children" that frequent fumbbl. Other's swear by it. Only problem i would forsee is that the game is totally automated except for moving, so i don't know if you would actually pick up the rules. Idea would be ideally to try and find 1 or 2 people to play tabletop with to learn the rules. Or learn the hard way, and just attend tournaments, and do REAL badly in the beginning as you learn
I am in Cockburnspath (Yeah yeah  ) on the east coast, Ith is in Fife, Ewan lives up near stirling, and not quite sure where King_hrolf is. Zfurelli is returning to Dundee ( :puke: ) soon.

Welcome back to the fold

Conversion tips, are in here:
viewforum.php?f=23

Or just post a question in that thread, or the Bloodbowl for sale thread, a lot of guys have spares that they are willing to swap or sell.

Something that you can try to learn the dynamics a bit is to play a few turns against yourself. Yes, I know, it's not too exiting, and you don't have anybody to tell you if you are doing something wrong or not, but it helps to learn some of the basics.
