Returning player - picking a team & star players

Post by tonksey »

All

Have just re-bought the BB boxed set along with a few additional teams/star players (Dwarves, Wood Elves & Dark Elves) to begin with. Plan is to join a league fairly soon-ish when I get up to speed and remember how to play the game.

Having looked on this website, it's become startingly obvious the world of BB is far bigger than I had thought... all these tournaments & leagues, teams & star players etc etc! It was a lot to take in at first...

Got a question or two (or few!) for you...

1. Planning on getting Skaven, Chaos, Undead & Vampire teams soonish as well. From what I hear, Vampires are awesome to play with but unpredicatable/unreliable at times - why?
2. Forgetting the "humans or orcs" suggestion for a newbie and/or returning player, which are the next best 2 (or 3) teams to start playing in a league with? Want a slightly more interesting suggesting than the orcs & humans...
3. Star players - can Ramtut play with Undead or Vampire? His card only say Necromantic/Khemri... logic would suggest Undead/Vampire is ok too? Can Chaos teams include the centaur, Hthark? Just like Blackhoof can play for Chaos or Chaos Dwarf?
4. Star players again - is there an up to date file of all star players currently allowed/used?

Thanks

M....

First you might want to check out the still current rules. These contain also all star players stats:
http://www.specialist-games.com/bloodbo ... ebook4.pdf

however the above rules will only be official for a short while untill version 5 will become official:
http://www.specialist-games.com/assets/ ... on1_12.pdf

So I'd suggest you first find a league nearby and check out which version they'll be running in the near future (not all leagues will make the switch while others have already done so...).

As for starting teams, undead are a pretty good team to start with even though they have no passing game but still some decent speed. If you like to pass then high or pro elves can make a decent starting team. If you like to bash chaos dwarves are good.
For the moment steer clear of vamps, they need meticulous planning for the team to work. Every time a vamp wants to take an action you have 1 in 6 chances of it doing something nasty to a team-member.

Oh yeah, as for stars. Most leagues don't allow permanent stars on the roster as they tend to dominate games and make team building less important, in most leagues you are allowed to freeboot/induce them for 1 game only though.

I hope this helps and welcome to the site!

Welcome to the site also. You need to go throught the rules as mentioned as the game is evolving all the time and fid out what rules set you are using if you are going to play in a club!

I also thought I would get a plug in but if you are thinking of buying in a few teams - you may want to save a bit of money and check out my site on the link below. I have most of the lines you are looking at!! 8)

Tuern & Tritex - thanks for the welcomes. Can't view the two links on my work PC; got an attachment you'd be able to send to me by e-mail?

Vamps - the idea of playing them appeals to me... but if the consensus is that they need working on, then might be a bit tricky. Wouldn't something as simply as an 11 or 12 on two dice (for them doin something to a team-mate) even it up a bit?

its a deliberate 1 in 6 chance and a straight injury roll for a reason.

with it being less risky theyre too powerful at s4 and ag4 but with practice they are great especially in league play

They don't need working on, they need a good and experienced coach to use them right. If you're new to the game I think you'll quickly get frustrated playing them and losing with them. They are meant to be a weak team to give good players a challenge, just like goblins, halflings and ogres.

I cannot send you the files via email as they are several MB's large.

Tuern - thanks. I don't think I mind as I am not exactly new to the BB concept, just need to get up to speed. I do like a challenge after all, so might give them a go in friendlies at least.

Anyone got any answers about whether Ramtut & Hthark are able to be in Undead/Vamp & Chaos teams respectively?

Ramtut plays for Khemri, Necromantic and Undead (not vampire), it is a known misprint
Hthark plays for Chaos Dwarf only
