Team for my first league, Orc or Undead

Post by fedelas »

Hello,
i'm bout to start my first league of blood bowl and i'm very undecided about two team: Undead or Orc.
Which one is better for a newbie coach?
I also need some hint of play tactics for both (we use Lrb 6.0 rules)

Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad grammar and spelling, english isn't my first language.

Fede.

orc is more forgiving and across the board better armor. It allows you the time to get the feel of the game before getting destroyed while you learn the quirks of a non average team

Can't go wrong with Orcs to start off with. That's what I've just done for my first team.
But think about whether you go just blitzers, black Orcs and linemen.
Or Troll and goblins and a thrower instead. Either way will work well after a few SPP's.

Orcs would be my recommendation to any newbie.

The only problem with Orc's is that you get so used to AV 9 you can get scared of moving to a squishier team.

Believe me I know, it took me years to try out a different team.

Orcs then to switch it up a few games with a low armor team so you can build different skills through getting your arse kicked

Either are tres bien!

Undead a little trickier in accounting for Ma3 mummies and Av7 Ghouls....

Orcs much more durable... goblins awesome if you protect them... Black Orcs for muscle and Blitzers for block... so much to love!

So probably Orc,
some hint on tactics? seem that both teams haven't a good time with passing game (Ag3 no catchers), i like the blocking game but how can i score? Only cage the ball and punch?

About the Roster i've tought:
Orc
4 Black Orc
4 Blitzer
1 Thrower
2 Lineman
3 RR
Undead
2 Mummy
2Wight
3Ghouls
4 Zombie
3 RR
Thanks all for the advice!

There should be a tactics thread somewhere on the homepage of TFF.... If not, use my Necro Tacticum (most of which transfers to the Undead team)....

Hello and welcome.

Your rosters are sound.

Some would suggest leaving the Orc Thrower until later as they skill up quite quickly I think you should start with Sure Hands right away.

And you're right about the cage and punch.
You slowly drive towards the end zone using the ST of the Black Orcs and Block on the Blitzers to make space and keep things moving.

Hi all and thanks!
League start today and i will play undead (another coach will lead Orc so we try to have as mny different team as possible)
so my new roster is:
2 Mummies
2 Wight
3 Ghouls
4 Zombies
3 RR
0 FF
in my few test matches (only 3  ) seems to be okay again agile/ fast teams, but a little hard for me to ply against more bashy ones.
Any advice? Or am i simply wrong?
Cheers!
Fede.

Mummies are great hitters, ST5 is a wonderful thing. Use zombies as line fodder to get beaten up, and if your opponent is too bashy for you, then don't follow up on any blocks you make, forcing them only to have one blitz per turn.

Mummies attrach a lot of attention, they are a magnet for fun!

They free up a number of players.. Your Zombies will help hold the line giving your wights and ghouls time to score.. just don't expose your ghouls on there own too often, being only AV7 and no Regen they can be targetted off the field
