What is the best way to embed images in posts on TFF
Hi All,
Hope this is the right place to post and I couldn't find a relevant post via the TFF Search function.
Previously I have used Photobucket to store images I wished to host on TFF, now Photobucket wish to charge me $399 per annum for this "3rd party hosting" function and has scrambled all my existing images on TFF until I do so.
I do not wish to succumb to this corporate extortion so...
How else can I embed images in my TFF posts?

Use the attach file thing at the bottom
Or another photo hosting service; imgur, google, etcYou do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

TOs! You do not need multiple copies of rosters. It's a waste of paper.

Lunchmoney,
Thanks for that.
Tried both approaches and prefer using Google Photos as there is no "Attachment" banner above the image.
Google Photo image addresses are humongous!
Cheers, Garrick (Graham)

I made a thread explaining most of the forum functions available but it never got made a sticky.
It also contains a link to a video where posting pictures is explained.
You can find it here: Forum functions explained

I've had hit and miss results with sharing Google Photos; some people can see them, others can't. Very strange. I continue to use Google Photos for most of my photo sharing needsGarrick wrote: Tried both approaches and prefer using Google Photos as there is no "Attachment" banner above the image.

Do you think anyone actually paid that?Garrick wrote: Previously I have used Photobucket to store images I wished to host on TFF, now Photobucket wish to charge me $399 per annum for this "3rd party hosting" function and has scrambled all my existing images on TFF until I do so.
Photobucket has always been a pretty rubbish site filled with obnoxious adds.

Well, don't be so sure they don't mean it.spubbbba wrote:Do you think anyone actually paid that? Photobucket has always been a pretty rubbish site filled with obnoxious adds.
In another forum I keep seeing this graphics shows up:

Maybe they finally try to use their status for making money.

Oh yeah, they have certainly gone through with it and really messed with some people after giving so little notice. Maybe those are the people they are targeting, those who relied on them and they can now hold the images to ransom.Regash wrote:Well, don't be so sure they don't mean it.

If they'd charged a small amount like $12 a year then you'd think there would be plenty of people who would pay that. They could always increase it down the line.

Somehow lunchmoney's posts just shows a clickable thumbnail here, no banner.Garrick wrote: Tried both approaches and prefer using Google Photos as there is no "Attachment" banner above the image.

Think that's down to your personal settings. If you go to User Control Panel -> Edit Display Options the top option should be Display Images Within PostsSteam Ball wrote:Somehow lunchmoney's posts just shows a clickable thumbnail here, no banner.
If that's set to No, then attached images will show as clickable thumbnails.

Just to give it a shout out:lunchmoney wrote:I continue to use Google Photos for most of my photo sharing needs
I mostly use postimage.
You don't need to register, may resize pictures and get linkt for thumbnails etc.

Re: What is the best way to embed images in posts on TFF
I've experimented a little today with ways to post images from Google Photos and the following technique seems to work:
- View the image on Google Photos and click the share icon
- Choose the Get Link option
- Google will take a second to generate a link, then click Copy
- Go to Ctrl-Q
- Paste the link into the field and click Generate Code
- Copy the Direct Link (URL)
- Paste into TFF inside Image tags as normal

Re: What is the best way to embed images in posts on TFF
I suspect my method might be slightly more fiddly but I prefer knowing that it is linking to the original file rather than duplicating the file on another server. It means I retain control of the image and can easily remove it from Google Photos if desired.Regash wrote:Just to give it a shout out:lunchmoney wrote:I continue to use Google Photos for most of my photo sharing needs

Display images within posts: Yes.
The image appears as "big thumb", between text (but only his text), clickable to get the full version. Neither full size nor "wrapped". *shrug*
Edit: just found another thread with images, talking about old ogres, and there I got them wrapped with extra rectangle and the "Attachment" banner (filename and size appears with mouse over, same than here). viewtopic.php?f=23&t=44216
