There are a lot of bots getting through atm.
We're bumping them off as fast as we see them peddling their mobile phone noises.
I may have made a couple of additions to the word filter.

How open are you to modifying the script itself? I don't usually use phpBB for anything but did set it up on The Morg, and pretty much immediately bots started signing up and making spam posts that had to be deleted every day or two.. so I slapped in an old security script I made to prevent automated http access (it wasn't originally meant to deal with bots, it was meant to deal with floods, but I assume these bots are automated rather than someone manually logging in and posting the spam) and there hasn't been a single spam post since.
Could be a simple coincidence (post hoc ergo propter hoc), but I haven't seen any issues with the script being in place, and there have been no spams since that day.

Pretty much all the spammers are IP addresses in Russia.
Being just tech savvy enough to completely FUBAR something I'm not sure if the forum software lets me ban an entire country...
