Do you write something like a diary for your team when playing in a league?
Keeping track of star player points is a given, but do you comment each of your games and write little stories to explain the rolls on the kick off table etc.?

Only when something out of the ordinary happens.

Slightly off context, would it be possible for the pbem leagues to somehow add a diary log to the teams?

I liked the old concept of career stats. I try and keep records for each player on running with the ball (paces), catches and passes (attempts and distances) and their "best game" statistically.

I love all those kind of things. I keep a record of all the stats from games in my league including Rushing Yards, failed dodges etc. I also post match reports from all the games and fluff up any results from kick-off tables and the like. Without that stuff, I'd not be anywhere near as interested in the game.

I prepared a paper for writing down whats happend in my league games. Helps a lot if the resultpage is lost.

Trav, I'm a fan of your work but the thread you posted is not at all fluffy. It's very technical and clinical and doesn't really do what I think Emporer Norton is getting at. This is the sort of thing I produce for each game in my league:

The league I was in for most of the 1990s (2490s?) kept REALLY detailed statistics (paces rushed, paces passed for, completion percentage, all sorts of stuff) and I still have the career stats for a couple of my old teams. My current league keeps track of mostly stuff you get SPP for, for individuals and teams.

We use a game sheet that each coach must sign (to verify the stats are correct), and the game sheet has a section where the coach keeping track can write down strange/historical events that happened during the game.

Troy, did you find that it slowed the pace of the game down when the coaches themselves had to note down their players actions? I keep as many stats as you can think of (except possession - fractions of a turn are a problem and assists - don't care about them) but I have an independent coach reffing the match to keep them. I was in a league where people marked their own actions but we found that the pace dragged a bit.

Yeah, a little slowness added to games, but with our current league the majority of coaches are veterans so it goes faster. That plus the fact I'm usually out of playoffs after one round means I do a lot of playoff reffing!!!

Just to let you know that there are a couple of us in Scotland who play BB on a casual basis (as we are still learning) and my friend Andy takes full details on each drive and turns them into match reports at the end. It takes about 3hours but we ain't in a rush. It's basically a short story and we include player rivalries between his Orc's ''the Mighty Phapschmeer's Bar'stewards'' and my squishy Humies ''The Middenhiem Mincers'' who are best known for their bright pink boots and sequins. The boots are sponsored by''Gay Glow''. Don't ask why I just wanted to o.k.. But he has also written a history (4 pages) on how the creation of his team took place. I have also written a history for my new Skaven team. Does anyone know if there is someone or somewhere that might be interested in viewing these bits of fun. Would appreciate any advice.

Hi all. I'm the Andy mentioned in Brooster's post. What I do is write down all the action, who blocks who, who makes the daring touchline runs, scores, completed passes and KO's themselves etc. as each turn is played. Then I sit in front of my computer with a lot of coffee and churn it into a "newspaper-style" match report. ( Eggy McScone, your intrepid Halfling reporter....... ) As Bruce said, each game takes a while, but we chat, and smoke and have numerous coffees..... very pleasant way to spend an afternoon, all told. We have also done a little team history, to give a bit of backstory. Astounding what you can think of at 3 am......

Yeah, it does take extra time, but that's OK, as we then have league fluff (and we don't use the 4-minute rule, so that helps)! I had a team about 15 years ago (2nd Edition

) called the Gate City Chargers, for which I had actually created 6 (count 'em, 6) team songs/chants. Pretty easy when it comes to 2nd Ed rules (mixed race teams were the rule, not the exception, and my team had skaven, dark elves and a troll). Plus the keeping of statistics...I tended to keep more stats than the others

and so I felt more like I was running a pre-computer-age fantasy league football team (for those who aren't aware, that kind of "fantasy football" involves a draft of real NFL players, whose on-field stats count for your team; it's not OUR kind of "fantasy football"). Lots of work, but lots of fun, especially when we wrote up the newsletter and had all that fluff to work with!!!

The reporter name I typically used for the newsletter was that of grizzled human inkslinger C. Nile Hack...

I like this thread as it shows me that there are people who are in the game for more than just the win. I don't produce a newsletter but I do keep stats and would be happy to start sharing best practice on things like that. For instance, the stats I keep allow me to compile a Most Violent Player award or rank the All-Pro team based on much more than just SPPs.

In terms of team history, I have gone for the potted version similar to the official ones. As my league started in its current format last season, I have put in some overblown back-history to compensate but I find that this way of doing things has allowed me to incorporate the present and future more easily.
