Introductions and Newbieness

Hello all,

I just wanted to say hello since i'm new to this forum and Blood Bowl as well. I've been a computer gamer for many years and for some reason I felt the need to get involved in an actual-honest-to-goodness-tabletop game and I always admired the miniatures in the GW universe but was terrfied by the masses of models it took to make armies in Warhammer and 40k. Blood Bowl looked comparitively tame as far as preparation goes (expense wise as well) and appealed to me on a visceral level. We have a pretty active BB community around the store it seems. Sold. So here I am. Hello!

So then, I have my Blood Bowl box-set on order from the GW online store and in the meantime I visited my local gaming shop and picked up an Orc Team Set which consisted of 2 Black Orc Blockers, 1 Thrower, 3 Bltizers and 5 Linemen. My question to anyone is: Is this good enough for a decent team or will I have to buy an Orc booster pack? (I know I will be getting plastic Orcs in the boxset, but I'm more interested in metal models). From the posts I've scanned it seems I have more than enough Linemen, but might be short on BOBs and Throwers. I really don't know as I haven't a clue how to play yet. I figured I would start a-painting until UPS showed up with my shiny new BB Boxset.

Any extremely newbie advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated and other unsolicited tips are welcome as well!

Thanks in advance and it's good to be here!

Hi and welcome.

I got into Blood Bowl for very similar reasons to you - and haven't looked back! If you want to know about team selection, you should look at the tactics and team development (i think that's right) thread. There are a few different line-ups available there. Normally, with BB teams you do end up needing the booster.

Welcome again and enjoy!

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

I advise you to have a look in the team and tactices developement section. It has a lot of info on the building up of teams.

Also you can try a search, by typing the search button in the right top of your screen. It works out very good and will filter out topics that are not about orcs!

Have fun! :D

Welcome! There can never be too many BBers.

As for needing extra players. You're going to want at least two extra BOBs, an extra blitzer and a big guy. Besides this you may at some time want to try an 11 line orc starting roster, I would not go as far as to buy more metal linos for this though, it's a good opportunity for your plastics to come in handy after all (and by that time you may fancy some experimental conversions). For the rest an extra thrower and some gobbo's may become part of your wish list. But first: play using the plastic minis to fill the gaps and then decide on whether you need/want which booster pack.

Success in your BB coach carreer, the tactics and team development section should contain enough tips to help an orc coach on his way.

Hi, im new around here, but I've been playing BB since the days of the 1st edition!

I have an elf team from the 2nd Ed. which is the last version I bought and played.

I LOVED this version - the 3rd Ed just never seemed as fun to me - am i wrong?

BTW - are there any rules to asking for scans of old articles or rulebooks? Ive been hunting for a copy of the 2nd ed. Handbook as Ive lost mine - but none seem to be available from the full box!

can you help? if you can, PM me....

Darryl.

Holy god, your collection is incredible. You are a hell of a talent, my friend.

Do you only collect/paint/build Bloodbowl? Around where I live I sort of get the impression BB is the red-headed stepchild of the GW universe. The majority of the people here play WHFB and WH40k.

Right now I've finally gotten down to painting my very first team. Orcs. It's a little nerve wracking but I'm doing my best. Going for a purple/silver color scheme and I'll post some pictures for you all to laugh at when I have something presentable done. :D

I fully agree. 2nd ed was great, especially with the companion and star players expansion.
3rd ed was IMHO crap, so I played it only a couple of times.
