NAF: what do I get for my money?

I don't intend to be starting a flamewar or anything, but I've looked at the NAF site a few times (often through "vote for the President" type threads here and at FUMBBL and the question it does not answer is why I should want to pay them money to join when there are tons of free, fun, reliable resources out there for me to use.

I'm not trying to elicit any sort of pro- or anti-NAF feeling, I just want to know if current NAF members feel like it's a worthwhile investment and how "into" BB you really need to be to get your "money's worth" out of it.

I like playing BB 3 or 4 times a week, once in a league and 2-3 times on FUMBBL. I have a couple of teams. I'm not a league manager, nor do I aspire to be one.

What do you get out of NAF, members? Other than some suspiciously pinkish dice.

NAF is primarily an organisation for BB tournaments. If you don't go to BB tourneys, you are going to struggle to find any reason that justifies the NAF subscription. Many people on TBB think that the tourney scene is the best part of BB, and so see the NAF as vital.

For me, the NAF provides a central organisation concerned with BB, and BB alone. Heaven knows, GW certainly couldn't be described as that.

Plus, the dice are cool IMO. Still haven't got my black ones though. :-?

Basically been answered by Nazgit but basically unless you go to tornis then there is not much point joining up, if you do then you generally get a few £'s discount for being NAF, so if you go to as many as me (about 11 this year :P ) then you will make your subscription in discounts :P .

There is some discussion within NAF to make it more attractive for coaches who don't attend tourneys. One of the things that is under construction, and has been for a long time I understand, is to also rank coaches worldwide based on their league performance, not just on their tourney results.

But if you have any more ideas on that, mention it on TBB. Oh, and NAF provides a forum when TBB is down.

Just to clarify Rob, saving more money in tourney fees than you spent on the NAF membership is not profit. It certainly is a huge savings though! Cheers.

In Australia, there is no support for Blood Bowl by GW. So in order for there to be any official BB models prizes, the NAF are the ones who come to the party - based on the numbers of NAF members projected to come along - and they are very generous.

WE do have the benefit of Shadowforge being Australian however, so we often get support from them for our tourneys.

I've also recently joined the NAF and have to say it's worth the biccies.

Apart from the dice (in the mail I understand - a little tardy there), there's forums and access to NAF tournaments at reduced rates. They also have worldwide rankings and stats which are pretty interesting reading too.

For a tenner per year? Yeah, I reckon it's worth it.

I had been watching 3 chaos mutants too for about £5, so i listed them on auctionsniper as i was going to be away when the auction finished! but ebay decided to change my password in between and i lost my snipe! D'oh!

Do NAF still send out the pink dice? Ive heard some folk havent got any and have been waiting for a whi;le! :)
