Talk Fantasy Football

Hi everyone. First day here on TBB.

I first tasted bloodbowl a while back in 2002 in a "taster" session at my local GW.

Being young and irrepressable at the time, I did not have the means to mail order my own copy of blood bowl.

Roll on 3 years where I am now married with children and living in my own house in London, I rediscover Bloodbowl and buy the game.

Now first question from me is:

1) Ive always found a good way to learn the rules is to play the game. However I want to play an Undead team and have the figures. Is it a good idea for me to use them from the very start as I learn the rules so I effectively learn how they work with the rules. (does that make sense?)

Just a giggle for you all too. Ive been involved in GW for about 10 years now (started on 40k 2nd Ed and Necromunda when it first came out) and consider myself to be, tactically, very clever.

Imagine my face when my wife (who has just started with the hobby) throws a long bomb in the second turn and catches it just to dance into the endzone!!!!!!
It took me till turn 5 of the first half just to pick the damn ball up (nerf my dice rolls) and turn 9 I managed to walk the ball into the endzone with one of my Black Orcs!!

Ok so that wasnt really a question just a giggle for you vets out there.

Second Question: Wife wants to play with humans. Do you think this is a good choice for a) a bloodbowl Newbie, and b) a Games Workshop[ newbie?

Currently the Game is still 1:1, with the second half to play.

Firstly - Welcome!!

I think your better sticking with basics like Orc & Humans to start with as they are not overy complicated and are about even on match up.

Undead are a good team but Regen complicates it - it also depends if you are planning to develop them as a league team or just the odd match or two - if single matches I would stick with basics for a while !

Usual case though with your wife - Mine beats me at every game I play....I haven't got her to play BB yet but I daren't try.

thanks for the advice. We're going to finish our Orc V Human game once I get home (she says she is going to bash my skull in, what alovely woman)

We will probably play a few more games with Orcs and Humans as one offs, till we both feel happy with the rules. Then I may start up my Undead team and see if we can both handle tracking our teams progress.

Once we are confident we may be looking for more players in the Uxbridge/London area (and yes I know about the league at the green man in Euston) to help us along a bit

Yup, welcome to TBB

I would second the motion that you probably want to stick to the simpler teams such as orcs and humans before getting into the particulars of the undead... once you have the basics down, picking up the nuances of what their skills do wont be difficult at all, but off the bat I think they'd only complicate the learning process.

Second, I hope you mis-typed when you said your black orc scored in turn 9, as there should only be 8 turns per side, per half

Good luck to you and your wife on winning the game tonight... I only hope for your sake that you win, I know how much I hear about it when MY wife wins anything.......

Yes sorry was deffo a mistype (see still very new to the game) thought there was 10 turns a half, my mistake. I meant turn 6.

And yes I managed to win... eventually after a lot of blocking and blitzing I managed to stumble into the endzone on turn 8 as the last action in the game.

Tried a game with the undead too, scored in turn 4 of the first half, after forming a "cage" and running one ghoul to the endzone. Seemed to work ok but im sure the wife is wise to it now.

Im sure if she recieved the kick instead of me I wouldve found it a different kettle of fish.
