new players, Norse Vs Dark Elves

Post by sloppy »

My old blood bowl group from second edition recently got back into the game. I was hoping for some advice for playing my Dark elves against the following norse team- 2 blitzers, mino, catcher, thrower, 7 lineman 2 rr 9ff
i am going to start all linemen with 2rr apothecary and 8ff.

We have played a few one of games too learn the rules and his tactics are very straight forward. He puts almost his entire team on the line of scrimage and on the line in the flank zones, two players both zones. he leaves one or two players back a few squares from the line.

I am unsure how to counter this. when on offense i feel like i should line up along side him and set up superior blocks situations. However i usually try to run the ball past him with 2 -3 guys. this works ok but my team gets beat up a bit.

should i A)put three guys on the line and just run around him and score, b)maximize my blocks and cause injuries or c) stick to trying a combination of the two?

also any general tips for a new DE player in a league with humans norse and goblins(using Vault SW rules) would be welcome. all the other teams have a big guy or two.

Thanks

Its probably best to avoid trying to fill your starting lineup with all positionals. Relying on them to get all your ssp's - is an easy trap to fall into and you will find out later on in the season that your linemen will find it harder to "skill up"

Take a look in the tactics section of this forum for specific tips on how to play DE's, along with suitable starting lineups. A quick "search" using that section should help solve your problem(s)

This is quite a match up indeed, imo these teams don't have a big advantice over each other, they both have 6 ma and 3 st, you have ag 4 he's got ag 3, you have av 8 he's got av 7 but he's got block on every player. I'd think you could try to out pass him, get 2 or 3 player behind his defence, pass the ball, run, hand over, run, or run, hand over, run pass, run. if you get a fight on your hand I'd try to get 2 dice block in my advantige as much as possible and foul his possisionals. I don't know what to do about the mino just keep your distence, the way to get as little block against you is to dodge out of his tackle zone as much as possible, so that he can only block you during his blitz move.

P.S. good luck, and tel us how you game whent, I'm quite intrested in how things whent cos i'm starting a d-elves team as well.

Block is a seriously superior skill in a rookie game, and honestly norse should have the upper hand here with decent luck. I would suggest getting a blitzer in your starting line up, as you'll need that block and movement inevitably.

If he's lining everyone up, then you should concentrate your offence down one side. When he leaves 2 men on the wide zone line of scrimmage, place one guy in front of the inner opponent player, and one just to the left or right (depending which side of the pitch) of the outer opponent player, placing your blitzer with in the centre section of the board (as u cant hae 3 in the wide zone). After the kickoff, blitz this outer guy with your blitzer and dodge out (having done all your safety moves and necessary rolls first of course).

This will leave a hole on the right side through which you can begin pouring through players, caging the blitzer to whom you can hopefully get the ball. If not protect you ball carrier deep, and wait for the right moment to get it to your awaiting players (limit your passing if possible, dont be in too much of a hurry to pass as things often go wrong on anything other than a quick pass). This has the affect of isolating 3 or 4 norse players stuck on the other side of the pitch. Not a golden formula for winning but itll make him think.

Good Luck!
