Starting a Lizardmen Team

Post by Gremdel »

I've played quite a bit of PBEM back in the day but a group around here might be starting a RL league and I'm looking to join. Lizardmen are my favorite team to play but I'm puzzled by how to field a team. Here's what seems to be available:

http://store.us.games-workshop.com/stor ... ode=301144

That's a team pack with 8 skinks and 2 Sauruses? And no blister packs? What am I supposed to do with that? That's a 64 pt. team. Now, mind you the picture shows 4 Sauruses, which makes a lot more sense. Anyone know what's correct?

I think the league is going to be pretty loose, allowing proxy minis and such, so how should I field a Lizard team? Buy WHFB stuff and convert? Get the box set then add Reaper minis as needed? Go all Reaper? Suggestions are appreciated.

Can't be 100% sure, but it does look like an error. On the UK site it's 4 & 8.

Have to say though, I'd go with the WFB stuff and convert. I managed it, and my modelling skill is minimal.

The photo is correct, the caption is wrong. There are also blister packs with 1 of each.

If you use the little search box located in the upper left hand corner of the online store, it will bring up individual figures so you can round out your team as you see fit. A guy in an old league was running lezzards, but he used plastic mageknight figs rebased for obvious reasons. I think he used Whelps for his Saurus players and Lizardman minis for his Skinks. Just another option if your league allows proxies.

Thanks for the tips. I'm just playing around with some of my options. I figure I'll need 6 Sauruses and 10 Skinks before long so here's some costs:

All BB Way:
- Lizardman Team $45.00
- 2 Extra Sauruses $11.50
- 2 Extra Skinks $8.50
Total: $65.00

All WHFB Way:
- Skink Box Set (lots of extra skinks) - $35
- Saurus Box Set (lots of extra Saurus) - $35
Total: $70.00

All Reaper Way:
- 3 Blisters of Clutchlings (one short, I'll deal) - $33
- 2 Blisters of Reptus Warriors - $32
Total: $65

Hmm... so buying all bloodbowl stuff is no more expensive than any other route and I don't have to do any converting. Of course, if I go WHFB I'll have a lot of extra figures, but they will be plastic. The BB minis seems like the way to go for me.

Someone mentioned a Lizardman blister but I can't find it anywhere, can anyone point me in the right direction? And dice, I need dice. I own BB, 2nd edition, but I need some dice for this game. Should I get it from GWS or can I still join NAF and get a set?

Hmm, the Lizard blister pack appears to have gone poof when SG consolodated their line to fit into a print catalog last month. There should still be some out in the world and on EBay.

Cheers,
Maureen

I did my team cheap - spent about $15 CDN on used WH plastic figs. If I was going to do the team over I would use Reptus figs from Reaper. Man, they are sweet!

did you have to do weaponless conversions on them, chairface? I searched the reaper site to see them but the only ones with images were all ones with spears, bows, etc. I'm just curious since I'm not a huge fan of the GW liz minis myself and if I ever pick up a lizzie team I'd like to get some figs that are much cooler :)

Call GW and ask them. I think that in the US the number is :
1-800-GW-TROLL
In Canada:
1-888-GW-TROLL

I have built two teams over the years (Dark Elves and Skaven) by buying the box and getting individual miniatures to get the rest. Because even with the blister packs, you don't really get what you want.

For example, Skaven comes with (and I'm going from memory here)
3 GR
2 SV
1 Thrower
6 LineRats.

A blister comes with:
1 GR
1 SV
1 Thrower
1 LineRat

In addition to the box set, I wanted 1 GR, 2 LineRats and 1 Rat Ogre to finish my team. As you can see the blister was not great. I get a third SV that I can't use and a second thrower that I don't want to use, and I'm still missing a lineRat. So I called them up (Canada) and asked for 1 GR and 2 LineRats instead of the blister. Those 3 minitatures cost about the same as the 4 miniature blister pack, but I got the minis that I wanted.

When you do this, make sure that you specify exactly which player you want. For example, specify GR #1 or GR #2. I did not, and ended-up with 3 of one type of GRs and 1 of the other type. I would have preferred 2 and 2.

At any rate, it worked for me.

Personally, I find that GW did not put much thought into these Booster Packs. For example, Dwarves. A standard Dwarf set comes with 6 Longbeards, 2 Blitzers, 2 Trollslayers and 2 Runners. That's great as I get my maximum allotment of positional players with an additional Longbeard.

However the Dwarf Booster pack has 1 of each player, Longbeard, Blitzer, Trollslayer and Runner. Why? I can't use any more Blitzers, Trollslayers and Runners. The Booster pack should be 2 Longbeards as those are the only players that I would ever need, aside from weapon-carrying players or Star Players.

Business-wise, GW really should have offered 1 Blitzer, 1 Trollslayer, 1 Runner and 9 Longbeards. Then people would have to buy a Booster Pack to fill-out their team.

Not that I'm complaining though. I'm glad that all I had to do was just buy the Dwarf set and be done at that. :)

I'll cross-post this in the football miniatures area of the forum:

I was just at my local GW store today in the US, and you can now order individual pieces and archive stuff through the store (saves $7+ shipping!)

Cheers,
Maureen

If you do what I did and find a friend to split the boxes with, you can get away for $25-30 each. You'll both have more than enough to field an entire team with some left over.
