Pesky Humans

This is my first visit to this forum and I'm hoping it will be productive. I need help in trying to defeat my regular opponent (and constant tormentor  ). His human catcher has, thanks to some v. lucky dice rolls, now got movement 10 and the sprint, sure foot and block skills. Basically this means he's a git to stop. As a result and thanks to some terrible defending and really unlucky block rolls he scored 2 TD's in 2 Turns. I'm playing with a dwarf team and need to find a way to hold off his attacks long enough to injure enough of his players to make gettnig a TD achievable. Any tips?

Forget about scoring TD's! As long as he's got a 'One turner' on his team, you should be concentrating on putting him in the injured box...

The best thing you can do to stop him is to make that one-turn scorer dodge through as many of your longbeard's tackle zones as you can. Try to arrange you players so that will be dodging from longbeard TZ's into more TZ's. Tackle is your best friend.
Then if you you can slow him down to a 2 or 3 turn score, again use those longbeards to blitz and block that little wimp! Then run him over with a death roller if need be. The best way to attack him would be to get the ball and then protect it while you beta him senseless.

Stopping a 1-turner - be it human or otherwise - with a dwarf team is very difficult.

Fact 1: no matter how you place your players on defence, your opponent can block and blitz open a hole in your defence, so no tackel zones are present on the catcher and then is only about getting the ball to the catcher and the run.

Fact 2: Your opponent is making a grave mistake if he allways chooses his 1-turner to score with. This makes sure that his other cathers lack behind skillwise, which is only good for you.

How do you win then? Dwarves are good at one thing i Blood Bowl - running the ball. Don't try to injure his 1-turner. Odds are, if you do happen to get him down, that he will be rescued by an apothecary. Instead concentrate on securing the ball surrounding the ball carrier and slowly move downfield. Meanwhile you look to his other more important player: The thrower that gets the ball to the 1-turner and the blockers/blitzers that make the hole for the catcher to run through.

Hope it helps :)

Cheers

Thank you to all who have replied so quickly! :D I won't be playing him again for a few days so I've still got time to figure out some cunning ploys, either that or buy some loaded dice  He swears he will never score another TD with his one turner again but I know that should he fall behind the temptation to use him will be too much. Fear not, one day the "Short Fuses" will be victorious.

At the first failed dodge. foul him, turn one of your longbeards into a dirty player if neccesary. so what if he's got an apothecary, next time he's dead meat ( If he makes the first roll that is ). His dodge skill is fairly useless against your tackle skills and his 2 Strength means that you should always get a 2 die block if you get a chance to block him.

At some point your gonna get a blitz as well. Guess where his one turn scorer is gonna be then.

Yup ready to be blitzed by a longbeard, then fouled by a Dirty Player.

A Skaven 1 turner is a different prospect their AG 4 means they dont fail as many dodge rolls, A human will inevitably at some stage fail. When he does show no mercy this is Blood Bowl not Net Ball

Keep your defensive line back farther than normal, try to put a tz on as many spots as u can. Make sure all those guys back off the line have dodge.

I dont know why im telling you this, (i hate dwarves) but try this one on him-keep a troll slayer behind your line and try to force his star catcher to go down your sidelines. Then blitz him with your troll slayer while he is close to the side line, his frenzy means that if you dont plant him in the 1st block you can have a 2nd go at him. Or even better push him back on the 1st block so that he is on the side line, then use your 2nd block to push him off the feild. It works realy well (i use it with my norse blitzers) an is a great way to make sure he will miss alot (if not all) of the game.

1 turn TD is a high-risk play. If he's running the play with more than one turn on the clock then he's putting himself in serious danger as he's not going to have the support downfield if he fails.

If you set all of your players in a line right down by the touchline he won't be able to blitz through and it will foil the 1 turner and force him into another play. If that's the only game he's got he's scuppered (although I doubt it is).

Even if he does score on you, you'll get the ball back and be able to set the game to your pace, keep tight, block and foul. Your block and tackle is a great advantage here. If you take it slow and send players off the pitch he should have a hard time getting back into the match. If you put the fear of nuffle into him if his 1 turner is trapped on the pitch he will be devoting energy to protecting his players and not stopping the score. From then on the game should be yours.

If you kick off let him score in 1-2 turns. You've now got 6 turns to grind out a score (and grind a few of his players too!). In the 2nd half try to score on the last turn. It ain't pretty but it's effective (I used a similar tactic with my norse).

Of course, if you do enough damage to his team in the process of scoring you'll stop him having an effective offence. His catcher can't 1 turn if he has to go deep to pick up the ball himself cos you've taken out his ball handlers. :D On that note take kick and place the ball deep. If it scatters nicely it means a risky throwing play to even hope for a 1 turner.

do you play in a league, just for fun you can organise a hit list where you use your winnings to place a price on your pesky players head, whoever kills the player wins the bounty for his team.

not a nice way to get a kill but is has worked for OLBBL well.
