I cannot help thinking

That some threads shoudl be locked just when they reach a certain age to stop blatant threadromancy.
Some threads need to die. the discussions go nowhere and tail off into polarisation....
please maybe a 1 month cap on duration from last post then lock it up and file it away

The problem is that there is no automated way of doing that. So that a LOT of work for the Mods to try and handle for something done as a volunteer basis.

On the other hand there might be some old topic still worth posting to.
Some of the tactics questions for example (when tactics change between editions). Or some miniature questions might change. Even though aparently people prefer to start new topcs all the time

It would be mere impossible for the mods/admins to lock all the threads after they would THINK it could be closed. What if we close a thread and somebody wants it reopened because he has something else to say? Or we get even more threads because somebody wants to say something about a thread and posts a new one with a link to the old closed one. There would really be no end to it if you get my meaning.
Also don't forget that there are alwasy new players coming to the forum. They might want to say something about a topic as well. Should we disallow them because we oldies have finished discussing them?

And also, there are those who aren't on these boards everyday that do post fairly regularly. They'd miss all the fun if everything got locked out every few days.
