New old-time player; what should I play?

Hi there everyone! My name's Isaac, I live in Southwestern Ontario and I've liked Blood Bowl for years, but I have a hard time getting people around here interested in playing it. I can get my friends to play it once, since the concept is intruiging and my minis are exquisitely painted

. But they aren't usually so keen to play a second time, maybe because it's hard (and slow going) to learn in one game, or maybe because bad rolls can ruin your game.
I want to play, but I'm not sure that the Blood Bowl rules are the best way to play fantasy football. And it doesn't look like GW is interested in supporting the game (it seems just the opposite!) Should put my interest and energy into a different ruleset like Elfball instead?

Blood Bowl has survived for years with no (or little) input from games workshop.
Ignore the doomsayers in the general chat thread, people just like to moan.
It has a much bigger community than any other game of this kind of variant, so depends what you are after really.
If you just want to play with your local friends then it doesn't matter what you pick, but I advise to play blood bowl personally.

my tuppence would be to get your friends into elfball and then gradually migrate them into bloodbowl once the ruleset is published.
whet their appetite and then haul them in.
also it means you can buy figs from Galak and underline the importance of being loyal to your customers

I have to agree with Grumbledook. The truth is that BloodBowl is the best game that was ever made. People here love to complain about the rules and the support from GW, but for people (re)starting BB the current rules are perfect and the support from GW is sufficient. I don't know which edition you used to play but I can guaranty that the game is a lot more fun once you get used to the changes.
If you want to get the right mini for every player... That's when you may suffer a bit from lack of support, but even then there are plenty of options.

Hi Catstacker -
I run a Blood Bowl league in Christchurch, New Zealand, which started a year ago using the latest rules. We have seen some coaches returning to the game after not playing for, 5, 10, 15 years. They love the new rules and find them better and more balanced than before.
