New Player & Making first custom pitch

Hi guys! I'm a new Blood Bowl player, I met Blood Bowl on the Cyanide PC Version last year. Tried it, bought it, loved it.
I live in Brazil, the boardgame here is very unpopular, and even worse: It doesn't sell here.

I've been thinking about importing the boardgame, but the import taxes are so high(about 70%) that I may end up paying around $100,00 for a game I'm not even sure if people will want to play me. :(

So, last night I was on ebay looking for good prices on Blood Bowl and I saw this: Image
At first I thought to buy it, the price was Ok. But then I realized I could make it myself.

So, I'm pretty decided on making something like this for me. Gonna buy some adhesive magnets, print the players from Javabowl on Vynil and put on the magnets. Print the pitch on Adhesive vynil and paste it on some metal board of it's size. The difference from the picture is that I want to make an official size one, so that maybe I could buy real mini's later(maybe attach magnets to them? Would be nice :P)
I've also downloaded a lot of resources from the COLLECTED BLOOD BOWL RESOURCES topic, thanks for that one.

So if someone has a good idea of anything to do, or NOT to do, I'd be really pleased.

So far, I fell in love with the game, read the entire rulebook since the PC explains almost nothing to you, I even transleted most of the rules to brazilian portuguese(http://docs.google.com/View?id=dfw3mphn_80hq2d3nf9 ), to help some friends here learn and want to play it with me (only two did =/)

So, thanks for any help provided and forgive any english mistakes I made, it's not my native language.

I hope you can drum up enough support to get a league going. Tabletop BB is so much better than the bland version offered by Cyanide (though it's still BB so it can't be all bad. :)

If you seriously want to get "boards" available in your country try to find a manufacturor / joiner/ caster in resin that can do a board in house ...in country...the rest is just rule books and any thing else you can get your hands on for markers etc....You should see some of the stuff turning up at tournaments in the UK! :D

Good luck and keep researching the possibilities...

Thanks for the support guys. The hardest thing to me is to find people to play with me on my town xD
I just sold my playstation 2 and I'm planning to buy the boxed game on EBay. Or maybe I'll stick with my custom pitch, just couldn't find a good way to make the metal board or where to buy it.
Anyway I will make it happen even if I have to force my GF to play me :P
Thanks for the support once again.

One of the classic ways of promoting a game is not to search for players, but have them ask you "what the heck is THAT?"

All you need is one person. Find somewhere public - a game store with a playing area, a park, a school, a mall or even just a streetcorner and then just play. Eventually you will have a small knot of people wondering what you are doing.

Carefully explain some of what's going on, and people will catch on. By the end you will have a few people interested. Doesn't take much longer and you have a group of players.

A small group here has been doing that for years, now we often have too many people for 'game nights'.

Hi and welcome drowmetal!

I assume you've already checked boardgame stores for players with similar interests (even if they dont know BB).
Thats a great way to find more ppl interested in "learning" a game.
Still, it might be worth to introduce it to other friends not related to wargamming. I used to have a few players in my league that got interested by BB because they were fans of football manager games, and the possibility to build a team turnd out to be appealing to them.

Hope you can catch a good deal on ebay!
Cheers
A.
