1. No.
2. Yes and only if you've declared a pass action.

Get kick skill if you don't already. Kick deep and flood the backfield. Try to make your opponent turn over.
If that fails and the cage is formed, mark the 2 back guys and put TZs around to prevent the cage moving forward without exposing the ball carrier.
Leap is also a very useful skill on a Dragon Warrior (or at a pinch Lion Warrior), with Strip Ball to jump into the cage and blitz the ball carrier.
Don't throw your Elves away in the 1st half. Sometimes it better to concede the TD than fight to stop the score.

Ian - you got their first...
Also If you kick and make it "easy" to score and the hard team score too early you can be 2-1 up after half time - then they feel the pressure
DON'T over commit your players unless its turn 8 and they are about to score....

Remember, always keep a player far enough upfield that you can score, if you can grab the ball. This will also force your opponent to spare one guy trying to put a tackle zone on him.
Beat up whatever he isn't boxing in, make him suffer for bunching all his other players.
If you want him to score, don't make it too obvious, as he might stall. Always keep him thinking you're trying to stop him, but keep makin tactical mistakes.
A few guys with guard is very useful if you can get them.
If you can, you might try to force him to the sidelines. You might be able to force some guys off field indirectly.
If you managed to get the ball away from the carrier at some point, don't be too afraid to block the opponents players upon the ball, likely (if they are low ag) they won't manage to catch it if it bouces. QAnd it might bouce into a aquare with only one tackle zone.
All depending upon the situation of course.
This added to Ian's suggestions of course.

Yep - and when you have a 290 team rating....

Unfortunately i only have a rating of 132, cos i lost 29 rating in one game by having a dragon warrior and 2 linmen die which is frustrating. i need my players to level so they can avoid poundings. i'll try out some of the cage breaking tactics above this weekend i have to play the dreaded lizards again.

"Dodging away and reforming the line" is a losing proposition - you're probably rolling more dice in your turn to make the dodges than he will be to make blocks on your players.
Worse still, you're not taking the game to your opponent. Unless you are asking questions of your opponent in their turn you'll always be on the back foot. Good suggestions above on how to do this. Try to get out of the "fighting retreat" mindset - it never wins games.

thanks for the advice guys. it seems to have payed off with an emphatic 5-0 victory over the dreaded lizardmen who cost me dear earlier in the league but they got there comupense. I have some more rules queries.
1). if some one fouls and gets sent off is that a failed action? thus causeing a turnover.
2).if someone or something on your team gets sent of for fouling can you still field 11 players or are you only allowed to field 10 after one is sent off?

Sadly, yes, it's a turnover
LRB pg24
A player who is sent off may not play for the rest of the match.
In addition, his team suffers a turnover and their turn ends
immediately. A coach may not replace a player that has been
sent off until after a touchdown has been scored or a half has
ended.
That answers #2 also. You have to finish off this drive without him but you can replace him after the drive. It's the same as someone getting hurt. You don't replace them right away either.

I don't really understand. If you really can't afford to loose the player, don't foul, though there's not much chance he'll get sent off. Buy more players if it's thay big of a difference.

I dont really foul as im elves and don't have enough men in my team and can't afford it. but when i play undead or orcs they have 15 players in thee team so im going to get fouled into next week. i may need to think about some armour adjusters in my team (dirty players) to equal things up on the pitch.

Yeah. You have to watch the teams with cheap players. Just don't forget to roll to see if the ref spots them and make your fouls count. You might not want to foul every turn. Keep your players standing. Dodge them one square away so your opponent need to blitz to knock them down. I know none of this is new. I feel for you though.

at the moment i only have 12 players so i cant afford to foul. i am getting a 2.18 casulties against per game which is painful i have had 4 players die in my league which is getting silly. but once i have more player i may consider fouling as an option.
