One possible starting skaven team would be
2 Storm Vermin - no one i have ever heard of did not start with 2.
1 Thrower - U can have a gr be your thrower, but he would be st 2.
2 Gutter Runners - U could start with just 1, few start with more than 2.
7 Line Rats - U will still have to have a gr on the field during defense but its the best u can do.

This leaves u an apoth (definately need one rite off the bat), 2 rerolls, and ff of 7.

U could either leave off the extra line rat or apoth for some extra ff or both for ff and a reroll but i would not suggest both.

i start with:

2 sv
2 gr
1 th
6 lr
9 ff
3 rr

and then 20k left over which means you should get an apoth after game 1

quit giving the newbie bad advice, will you?

3ff and a rat ogre? sjeesj.

the RO might be a matter of personal opinion, but you need at least 7 FF and are better of with 9. certainly with skaven.

I agree, wait some time before purchasing the Rat Ogre. High FF, Apo and enough "normal" player to sustain 16 turns of heavy pounding from the opponent is of higher importance. I took my RO when one of my Linerats rolled a double and got "Leader". Without that safety net, a RO is disrupting your whole game as it becomes a harder problem of keeping him from producing TO as to score fast with the rest of your team.

i believe the general school of thought is if you want a rat ogre take it early

there are less players with block/guard/+st about to take advantage of the wild animal trap and the sooner you have one the quicker they get block and pro which pretty much negates wild animal

so basically i don't take one at all ;]

I tookm a RO at the start of my league, and 3 games in hes finally got block. Ive won every game with at least 2 t/ds up and usually a few kills, and ive only lost one rat. My GR both have numerous skills. My only error has been to only start with two FF as I didn;t understand the rules regarding how important this is at the beggining, but im still doing ok.

I go for buying the RO right at the start :) Scares the opposition.

It's just a matter of choice of how do you want to play the game I think. Will you go for the more or less safe way: no Rat Ogre at the start and a huge FF, or would you go for the tricky one, A Rat Ogre and less, less FF and probablly no Apo to start with. It's just a matter of luck (and some sane insight in tactics) how your choices will turn out. I like the "tricky" choice, but then I always play for fun.

Concidering the above I'am going to play in the M@dHobbit Masacre Tournament in The Netherlands with the following taem, and I would appreciate your humble opinion about this team (the coach has 1.100.000 gp to his disposal to assemble his team):

1 Thrower
3 Gutter Runners
2 Storm Vermin
5 Linemen
1 rat Ogre
3 RR
5 FF
1 Apo

O yeah, I forgot to mention, everybody is healed miraculously (even the dead) after each match.

I think you should get rid of the Apo and either get more FF and replace a lineman for an extra thrower, or take extra lineman instead. You don't really nead the apo if you're being healed at the end of the match. :smoking:

I like to see the Apo as some kind of super back-up in this scenario (player #12, who's able to cope with any task that is being asked from him, shall he be a Gutter Runner or a Storm Vermin, it doesn't matter he can be any one of them). Imagine, my Rat ogre or another player like a Storm Vermin gets killed or BH or whatever. With an Apo I can (with some luck) put him back on the field again straight away. I don't have to wait for a TD or a second half, "he" can be used immediately. That's the reason why I'll go for the Apo and not for an extra Lino or more FF.

Drop to FF3 and replace a Linerat with the 2nd thrower.
